@RevIsaacWirtz You also have to factor in the audience that Jesus and the prophets were speaking to. In most cases, the illustrations were directed towards unregenerate audiences. People who are indwelt by the Spirit shouldn’t need constant illustrations and object lessons.
@Protestia “This is why men who are complete strangers to seeing the person and glory of Christ by faith have turned to images, pictures and music to help them in their worship.”

@TomBuck@JenniferBuck65 It’s a bit of a self-own to talk about how you need to supervise your wife. It reveals just as much, if not more, about your ability to choose a godly spouse than it does your wife’s weaknesses.
@megbasham My real issue with Libertarians is that they veer right so they can turn left.
The Left™️ will say that abortion is a right and the govt must protect it.
Libertarians will say that they personally don’t approve of abortion, but it’s not right for govt to get involved.
@jcuth20192@alisa_childers Were the Bereans (Acts 17:10-11) being divisive? No, in fact they were commended for comparing Paul and Silas’ teaching to the Scriptures.
If you have the Holy Spirit and a Bible, you have the authority to test everything against Scripture, which is exactly what Alisa is doing.
@jcuth20192@alisa_childers Wasn’t Peter a preacher of the gospel when Paul called him out publicly for being out of step with the gospel? (Galatians 2:11-14).
Yes, God hates dissension. He also hates it when shepherds feed themselves at the expense of the sheep. (Ezekiel 34:1-10)
The second you stand up and poke the gods of this age in both eyes, people will come out of the woodwork with all sorts of accusations:
You must have daddy issues. You must be consumed with envy and bitterness. Your heart must be shriveled up like a Pharisee's. You must be addicted to porn. You probably beat your wife. I'll bet she hates you.
The liberal mind cannot fathom a mind that is not riddled with and captive to its liberalism.
Liberalism is to the liberal fundamental law. It is gravity. It is the strong nuclear force. It is the unseen operating system which controls the world.
It can be frustrating, but it's important that we don't back down, that we keep pressing. Liberalism is a competing religion. It must be made to bend the knee to Christ.
For those daily inundated with accusations and projections like these, my counsel is simply to stand firm. Don't worry overmuch about being vindicated before men. The Lord will judge. Keep your hand to the plow.
@JennMGreenberg Right, but how else could we silence the people who make critiques/arguments we don’t like if we don’t shame them for not following Matthew 18?
@jason_howerton I’m sure that’s upsetting for those the critique is directed at, but it’s not representing Alisa’s statements accurately to say that she’s accusing these men of sin. Whether intentional or not, it’s a way to disregard the substance of her critiques by blaming the delivery.
I'm once again asking people to use Matthew 18 as Jesus instructed. It’s to address SIN. Not general disagreements, not wisdom issues, and certainly not instances involving abuse.
“Now if your brother sins, go and show him his fault, between you and him alone…” - Matthew 18:1
@Katy_Faust@howertonjosh@alisa_childers A lot of people need to read and internalize this. When it’s time to publicly accuse a faithful brother or sister in Christ — and when to reach out in good faith to discuss an issue.
We literally have Bible verses for this.
@jason_howerton Unless I’ve missed it, I haven’t seen Alisa accuse either Josh of a specific sin. She’s arguing that certain forms of church governance are more biblical than others, and will produce healthier churches as a result. 1/
@Katy_Faust@howertonjosh@alisa_childers Regardless of how this debate is resolved, maybe we can finally stop stifling substantial disagreements by shaming people who raise good-faith objections about wisdom issues for not following the Matthew 18 process.
@NickJFreitas@alisa_childers Alisa is critiquing their church’s governance model. She’s not accusing them of immorality or specific instances of abuse or wrongdoing. Why is it necessary to work through Matthew 18? (Hint: it’s not)
@alisa_childers@NickJFreitas@megbasham Alisa, you’re not wrong. Pastors and churches can have the best of intentions, but if the church’s governance is set up to primarily protect leadership/the church’s image, the sheep will be crushed.
Continue to gently and firmly hold your ground.
@farmingandJesus I have no problem with him contributing to the body in non-pastoral ways.
The money is the issue. Yes, David wrote Psalm 51, but he wasn’t financially rewarded for it. Maybe he’s donating the proceeds, but it calls into question his motivation for publishing his confession.
@farmingandJesus@HarpazoDynamo The Holy Spirit inspired men to write the Scriptures. He did this because He knows our weakness and our absolute need for objective reality over subjective feelings.
@TheMuppetPastor Pride has always been an occupational hazard, but the seminaries have created a system that disproportionately attracts narcissists and tyrants while discouraging the true shepherds.
