After the FDA warning I said that their decision would directly result in excess cases of NEC, and likely mortality.
Several studies since have unfortunately suggested exactly that. Fear of a 1 in 10,000 event resulted in a tangible increase in morbidity, and possibly mortality.
Would you choose a saline bolus in place of epinephrine for neonatal resuscitation? A new animal study might give you food for thought. Or, rather, is it a bitter pill to swallow? A🧵 @EBNEO@Research4Babies https://t.co/gqZ7jeusaH

Using information from tens of thousands of nutrition prescriptions for preemies, AI identifies 15 distinct total parenteral nutrition (TPN) formulas that may reduce costs and medical errors and improve infant health. The study in @NatureMedicine is by senior author @NimaAghaeepour and several of our Stanford Neo faculty and fellows.
“Nutrition is one of the areas of neonatal intensive care where we are weakest,” said co-author Dr. David Stevenson. “This reflects our hope for how AI will enhance medicine: What it’s going to do is make doctors better and make top-notch care more accessible."

New article: We incorporate neoclassical music from @alexstreliski, @LudovicoEinaud and others during Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography (TnECHO). We've found that this music helps calm the baby, facilitating smoother and more efficient image acquisition https://t.co/foIuEH2kcb
Couldn’t agree more. In UK setting during core paediatric training, neonatology skills building is limited. This is reflected clearly by lack of representation on neonatal care in the membership exams.
Why don't we use BRAIN more in NICUs across the world? It's a tool to help patients/parents engage formally in shared-decision-making.
How commonly is this tool used in UK NICUs?

I am very excited to share our open access book.
It offers practical guidelines for clinicians how to explain neonatal brain injuries to caretakers.
Includes 60 color drawings and explanations of brain injuries.
