@BillBrewsterTBB Apple + some of these problems remind us how saturated and competitive the online market has become. Low hanging fruit harvested. Scale is now expensive.
Co-viewing shows/movies on Netflix seems like a missed opportunity. Could be an easy way to get people to pay more even, and of course the network effects and everything.
@davenemetz True. Ads the most widely proven business model for internet businesses. This will continue to be the lazy answer until we see similar levels of success elsewhere.
@AdamRy_n 1. Bet on creators. Sign top YouTubers for exclusive content. Do what Disney and others won’t.
2. Create an ad based tier in emerging markets.
3. Ticket sales, Merch, even theme parks for popular franchises.
4. Lay out a sensible execution plan for shareholders.
@kunksed Strong signals of corporate pre requisites. Trainable, can undergo a regimen, willing to subject themselves to rigor, patient, can follow instructions. You’re going to have to train someone anyway, why not retain the lowest risk individual.
@aakrit Probably a function of the market. Large $$ is invested when structural changes unfold (ecommerce, UPI for ex). Then platforms fiercely compete. You get 2-3 front runners, buying the rest who can't raise $$.
Unless you're an incumbent, hard to have the cash to acquire a leader.
@pekwat I think we have some parallels with scooter rentals here. Industry is slowly learning (better tracking, predicting harm, good sense of write offs).
The end-game for last mile delivery is likely a pool of agents (autonomous cars, drones, human), callable via a universal Twilio like API.
2-3 platforms eventually control the infra, earn commissions, serving both neighborhood mom-and-pop merchant and the big box retailer.
Next few years will be great last mile infrastructure buildout. Walmart for example is upgrading stores to double up as a online fulfillment centers. That's 4,700 stores across the US. Others likely follow, driving investments in high-tech (drone, bots, IOT, software).
@tejeshwi_sharma Globalization has made some historically insulated regions/pockets increasingly sensitive to macro, and the last 2 years showed this more than anytime in the past.
