Hey @Ryanair, my parents who are in their 70s and 80s, had accidentally downloaded the return flight boarding card instead of the outgoing ones and you charged them £110 to print them at the airport. £110 for 2 pieces of paper which took 1 minute. Shame on you
Right ... so not climate breakdown, not nuclear war, not global food system failure, not oligarchic power, but desperate people in small boats seeking refuge.
We are living in the Upsidedown.
1/ You’ve seen the fires
You seen the floods
You’ve read the news reports
You’re scared
And now you want to do something about it
But what? And how?
A (longish) thread
@vandeHeijdenLab, this is rather mind blowing. Since soil biodiversity is still less well studied than other parts how did you account for this in your estimates? Your study calls soils a 'habitat' , something I hear for the first time. Food for thought.
In our new study we estimate that soils harbour 59% of the global biodiversity and are the most species rich habitat on Earth. Over 500 million species/ taxa are associated to soil.

This is one of the most profound videos I’ve filmed since the rise of Trump. I asked him why he was there. Tears rolled down his cheeks. His father who was a WWII veteran (like my dad) told him “We gotta stop this guy”. He was a squadron commander and he lost 110 men and he never got a scratch. And he lived his whole life trying to be worthy of their sacrifice. And he asked me to do the same. So this is a very small thing to do. But why everyone in the country isn’t doing this and trying to understand what this man is doing to our country. I don’t get it. But everybody needs to do something to stop this guy” Please listen to every single word and share. #TrumpArraignment #Truth
@ajmargenot@Amit_Kumar_PhD @jwadeexperience Yes, this was exactly the duscussion I had with @Amit_Kumar_PhD the first time we were interpreting enzyme data. What is the theory behind it, what are we expecting? It will come for sure, but it quickly became clear that this field needs more.
First sampling of a priority experiment with earlier sowing of forbs, legumes or grasses in collaboration with a farmer in Lower Saxony. We are very* curious to see if deeper rooting found in academic exp holds up in farmer's GL. @FEdA_Biodiv#grassworks
Like this a lot. Best science comes from a form of mindfulness and openness and allowing ideas to sprout, not chasing big papers or big labs. #academicchatter
As a PhD student, all I focused on was getting a PhD.
As a PhD supervisor, I focus on training students on the long-term process that leads to getting a PhD.
Here's some examples🧵
I could not wait for the official press communication. Our grassland rewetting project got funding. 17Mio€ for WetNetBB, 3.6Mio€ for @zalf_leibniz. Great team: B. Matzdorf, M. Hofmann, J. Bergmann, J. Augustin, O. Dietrich, C. Merz. And of course partners. More soon!
Follow the outcome of this exciting laborious and ingenious experiment of @BenjaminDelory looking at the role of chemical legacy and plant traits on plant soil feedback strength. Congrats on getting through to here @BenjaminDelory! I bet it was quite a ride.
