One of the craziest things about cutting off the physical player base is they are more likely to buy more games. Digital gamers (obvs not all) might buy one or two games a year but physical gamers are the hardcore that buy loads of games.

Regarding profitability:

✅When Sony sells a first party physical game to a retailer, the retailer gets around ~30% of the sale price

✅Digital helps them keep 100% of it

✅They expect to significantly increase their profit margins

So my plans for PlayStation going forward: buy everything I want and still need on both PS4 and PS5 (physically of course) and then in January 2028 drop full support from PlayStation entirely and turn my PS5 fully offline and play what I own... it's that easy to kill my support
