@brettttle@mattyglesias Her poor performnce had been prefigured in NH. https://t.co/0KyqbOe3wP True, BIden did even worse in NH, but he at least had the excuse that his greatest strength was among Blacks of whom there were hardly any in NH. Warren was from a neighbor state and should have done better.
@PviGuy Greenlee County was JFK's strongest (unionized copper miners). It is now staunchly GOP (partly because Democrats are seen as environmentalist and anti-mining).
@SpecialPuppy1 Normally I don't think endorsements amount to much but I do think Quinn's and Durbin's may help Vallas marginally with Democrats who aren't particularly progressive but still want some reassurance that Vallas is *some* kind of Democrat, not a right-wing Republican.
@mattyglesias They even had a parliamentary election in 1965 where a few Communists (including Babrak Karmal, future Soviet puppet president) were elected. Debates were, well, vigorous: https://t.co/8DMB57pXJg
@mattyglesias There are real mountains (and accompanying valleys) in NJ. https://t.co/paLxQqiNSf Obviously 1,802 feet as a state's high point doesn't match the Rockies or even the Adirondacks, but it is still higher than the high point of (despite the Ozarks) MO. https://t.co/ucuYbvLggu
@SpecialPuppy1 Ironically, FL Democrats likely did as well under it in 2022 as they would have under a fairer map! It conceded only eight districts to them but they *did* win all eight and in some of them (09 and 23?) it's conceivable they might have lost under a different apportionment.
@kwwhite18 (1/2) In 1991 when it was drawn and in 2001 when it was continured, neither D's nor R's held a monopoly on Il government. *Both* parties agred there should be a Hispanic-majority district and the "earmufffs" were the only way to connect the Puerto RIcan Near NW Side and Mexican
