@kevin_tomal @CantinaChef22 @KGrahamContent It’s obvious but a penalty is supposed to have a high probability of being scored. If they were hard there would be an incentive to foul to avoid conceding goals. But you still have to beat another player. It’s well calibrated and dramatic.

@SimonBrundish Us sports differ have very specialist much narrower roles than football. Some have higher athletic intensity but all require much less endurance. Comparing is pointless. But I would say if Americans devoted themselves to proper sports I would expect them to be competitive

@kylekirms @WhiteHorseFinal You have a different sense of intensity. You mean short bursts of play by people at their peaks. But you get no intensity of play because games stop all the time and no intensity of drama because games can’t change in an instance until the last few moments.

@kylekirms We want flow. Basketball is slow, 48m takes 2.5 hrs to play. Subs spoil flow. Players should be athletes who can do multiple thing for long periods. If scoring is easy goals matter less. Games can’t swing dramatically. Sport should be hard to play and emotional to watch
