@profclairelucas I came across this story during my PhD while learning about digital image processing with Matlab…and I have searched for the whole picture, the bit usually used is the top part only 🫢🫣
@professor_dave@ZJAyres …and I tried to leave my institution for others in the UK, I justified openly the gap in my CV when questioned on the lack of outputs during what has been defined a “sabbatical”, during more than one interview…poor understanding + poor leaders is the problem
@professor_dave@ZJAyres I had my academic career destroyed not by the family leave but by the workload once back. As I didn’t get any research grants or phd students during my leave, my workload has been filled with teaching and admin, all tasks considered meaningless for career progression
@RishiSunak This policy might help the good and motivated foreign students choosing other places to get a proper education, saving them from the trap of “internationalisation”…
@ChrisKeylock In the meantime there is a lot of counting likes on Twitter, glamour news for the reinvention of the wheel and internationalisation as new buzz word…😓

Closing down with a bang 🍾 Delighted with a stellar 91% rating from 1st-year students for both the whole module and my teaching 🧑🏫. Reading the humbling comments was a true highlight. Couldn't happen without the fantastic support from @ter3sa, @renzi_e, Mohamed and Jamal 👏
OMG…it’s called “adoption leave” and the other one is called “maternity leave”…not that difficult, buy a dictionary, read it, and read it again, and again…it’s plain English, first language for many here around!!!
