According to a MyBroadband article published on 12 January 2026 by Hanno Labuschagne, Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies Chairperson Khusela Sangoni-Diko (a senior ANC government member) made misleading or false statements about Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service in South Africa.

Diko claimed on social media that Starlink would bring “nothing to the table” and that providing free internet access to 5,000 rural schools via Starlink “would not move the needle an inch.”

The article argues these statements are dishonest because Starlink’s low-latency, high-speed satellite broadband could significantly improve connectivity in underserved rural areas where traditional infrastructure is lacking or unreliable.

The piece criticizes Diko���s position as favoring established mobile network operators (who are subject to heavy BEE requirements) over Starlink, which has been delayed in entering the South African market partly due to Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) ownership mandates. White South African farmers and rural communities have strongly advocated for Starlink approval for safety, business, and education reasons.

Diko later rejected the “lie” characterization in a parliamentary statement, insisting her comments reflected legitimate policy differences rather than falsehoods.

What was done to Henry Nowak was legitimate injustice. The cops were way more afraid to be seen as racist than they were to enforce the law.

Besides, wearing this shirt would piss off the right people, so I think it’s funny.
