Heritage Auction's Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction made history with its centerpiece: the New York Yankees jersey worn by Babe Ruth when he famously called his shot against the Chicago Cubs in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series. This iconic jersey sold on Saturday night, setting a record as the most valuable piece of sports memorabilia ever sold at $24.12M.
Among other rare items, notable pieces such as a Mickey Mantle game-worn jersey in Game 7 of the 1952 World Series, a Joe DiMaggio jersey worn during Game 5 of the 1947 World Series, a signed Jackie Robinson Model R115 used by No. 42 during the 1955 season, along with two Hank Aaron jerseys including a Milwaukee Braves zip-up worn during his rookie season in 1954 and an Atlanta Braves pullover Aaron wore the day before he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers 20 years later.
Babe Ruth's "called shot" jersey is now the most expensive sports collectible in the world.
