On my first occasion of speaking in public since the war outbreak in #Ukraine, during the Malta Architecture and Spatial Planning Awards, I reiterated my condemnation of military action. I appealed to keep in mind the Ukrainian people and the suffering they are going through.
Saddened by the irreparable loss of the much-respected paediatric consultant oncologist, Dr Victor Calvagna.
Our thoughts are with his bereaved family and friends. May his legacy of care for the most vulnerable inspire many to follow in his footsteps.
With sad heart I salute the memory of Saviour Borg..a diplomat, civil servant, with decades long, unparalelled hands on experience in multilateral aspects of foreign policy. With the late Alfred Zarb, and with Joe Mangion, he guided me during my years at the Foreign Ministry.
I join His Excellency the President of Malta in his heartfelt appeal for all and sundry to stop the uglification of our islands. Beauty is the result of harmony and respect. It has a value that is not measurable in price. It is the best tribute to the human spirit.
The President of Malta joins all well-intentioned citizens in launching a sincere, heartfelt appeal for a serious re view of existing planning & building regulations, in order to avoid allowing more unsightly structures to rise all over Malta. https://t.co/bYK17muwwu
Yesterday launched the Malta Sustainability Forum organised by APS Bank, with a one hour interview on the environment and the sustainability goals, ably led by Stephanie Spiteri. The threats, the goals, the opportunities, the challenges, the tools. We have to act now.
This morning, I paid a visit to the @EASO. I commended the Office for the very comprehensive manner in which it addresses the issue of asylum and reiterated that the principle of solidarity needs to prevail within the European Union to ensure a just distribution of responsibility
‘’To care for humanity, we MUST care for nature’’, I join the UN Secretary General António Guterres message for this year’s World Environment Day and reaffirm our shared commitment to place the well-being of the natural environment at the basis of every decision.
Following media reports, I support Mr Zammit Lupi appeal for online schooling to continue post COVID, following negotiations with Education auth. & teachers themselves. Sick children can thus continue with their studies from home or hospital, even if abroad for longer treatment.
On International Nurses Day I pay tribute to the daily sacrifices made by all nurses worldwide, in particular Maltese and foreign. Thank you all on behalf of the people of Malta and Gozo for being there when we need you most.

My undivided support to UNSG Gutteres appeal to stop armed conflict worldwide. "Put armed conflict on lock down. Silence the guns, stop the artillery, end the air strikes". Let us fight against disease like COVID 19, and not each other. End the sickness of war.
