@ohwitchplease I want to revisit the idea of the nation-state in book 6, esp with that "other minister" opening, and the idea that the magical world is a nation unto itself, and what that means for magic/muggle relations: studies of self-contained nations w/in larger states & why it's important
Anyway, I'd love to dive deeper on critical theories of constructing shared identity like this in future books/eps of @ohwitchplease - I don't even know what this is (diaspora studies? little nation-big nation studies?) but love the Deep Thoughts on Harry Potter, as always. 13/13
I never Do Twitter anymore, but I can't stop thinking about @ohwitchplease's recent episode on the Nation-State, and I have some (layperson, non-academic) thoughts in response. 1/
I think this thread/idea is more visible in books like HBP, where we start with the interaction between The Two Ministers, and we have a lot of flashbacks to what happens when Voldemort+kin crosses the line between muggle and wizard world 12/
Things to consider: hotel pools, the smell of chlorinated hair, eating dinner in your bathing suit, duty-free stores, beach reading, card games, sunsets.
@ohwitchplease Honestly, this podcast has kept me sane through an incredibly intense summer of personal and domestic upheaval. Thank you so much for validating my fandom, feminism, and being so incredibly smart.
Listening to the "how to podcast" episode of @ohwitchplease and the line "women's laughter is political" LEAPT into my ears and I want it on a tee shirt, tote bag, party banner, 40-foot mural plz thx
