A Tethered Ring is a dynamic structure that can cost-effectively support space launch facilities, transportation infrastructure, and a sizable human settlement.
@FareedZakaria@ariel_ekblaw@aurelia_labs It's hard to believe that some people are still spreading misinformation about rapidly falling launch costs, even after NASA published a study in 2025 showing that launch cost per kg is actually rising.
@FutureJurvetson Great, except that points 8, 9, and 10 and the green line are all completely inaccurate. Divide Falcon 9's 69.85M lowest cost per mission by its 12,300 kg payload in the lowest-cost RTLS configuration and you get $5679 per kg in 2026, which is just another point on the red line.
@Aku_700@NASA_LSP@SpaceX NASA optimized for best real performance whereas Elon optimized for best public perception of performance. https://t.co/yXnCRushjg
John Jossy published a well-crafted article on the economic benefits of the Variable Pitch Screw Launch system in Space Settlement Progress, an open-access journal focused on advanced tech for solar system settlement and beyond: https://t.co/ScdYqEmBVu

@planet4589 Can you (or have you) explained your methodology? Are you scraping data from SpaceX's broadcast or using some other satellite tracking service. If SpaceX, are you assuming their speed data is ECEF or Inertial?
The Electromagnetic Launch Conference is back! Very technical and very international. It was held in Amsterdam in September this year and was well attended.
Phil Swan presented at Ascend 2023 in Vegas. He discussed the favorable value proposition associated with off-world expansion, the hard facts on launch costs, and the feasibility of launch infrastructure. The presentation now available on YouTube: https://t.co/6wyp83yIsF
Phil Swan will be presenting at the 18th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings (ISMB18). This year the conference will take place in Lyon, France from July 18th to 21st, 2023.
