We've been seeing a lot of these types of posts over the past few days. So we put this together as an explainer.
Now keep in mind that we (US_OGA) are the small companies that produce oil and gas - not the big boys that are fully integrated and produce, transport and run refineries. We don't do that. We just pull it out of the ground and sell it to whoever will buy it.
But those other guys are bad at explaining things because they have comms teams that are scared of their own shadows so we have to do if for them sometimes.
That won't keep some of you from yelling at us. So be it.
But yelling at us is like yelling at a farmer for the price of a box of cereal.
But here you go. This might answer some of these questions.

Permitting headaches may be America’s biggest economic Achilles’ heel. Miracle of miracles, a draft bipartisan permitting bill emerged in the Senate that—dare to hope—could pass in the lame duck session. https://t.co/vNUffGqToi via @WSJopinion
Oil & gas executives with increased cash flow in 2026 will spend it mostly on "capital return to shareholders and/or owners" (top choice of large E&P firms) or "capital expenditures" (top choice of small E&P firms), according to the @DallasFed Energy Survey for the third quarter of 2026.

Alliance President & Petroleum Economist @karringham presented this number to Texas House & Senate members during hearings late last month. As specified in Senate Bill 494, the STOPTheft Committee will provide a final report this fall, including the economic impact section. These numbers may be refined or revised based on additional information, but will hopefully provide some clarity on the nature & scope of the overall negative economic impact of crude oil theft in Texas.

Whoa: "An ICF analysis commissioned by API finds comprehensive reform could cut residential electricity bills by a combined $55.6 billion from 2026 through 2035, support about 705,000 jobs, and generate nearly $24 billion in tax revenue by 2030."
🚨America does not have an energy shortage. It has a permitting shortage.
The bipartisan permitting package moving in the Senate - the American Affordability and Jobs Act, the “Freedom to Build” bill in plain English - is the first serious attempt in years to fix that.
Capito, Lee, Whitehouse, and Heinrich are not pretending the problem is a lack of studies. The problem is a system that treats delay as a virtue.
USOGA, API, IPAA, and the project developers who actually pour concrete are right. More than 650 major infrastructure projects are stuck in federal review, representing something on the order of $1.1 trillion to $1.5 trillion in investment.
McKinsey has estimated that construction costs rise 24 to 30 percent over long permitting timelines, mostly from materials, labor, and overhead while lawyers argue.
An ICF analysis commissioned by API finds comprehensive reform could cut residential electricity bills by a combined $55.6 billion from 2026 through 2035, support about 705,000 jobs, and generate nearly $24 billion in tax revenue by 2030.
That is the affordability case. It is math, not theory.
What the bill actually does:
◾️ Narrows #NEPA so reviews cover impacts tied to the project, not every hypothetical downstream effect a litigant can invent.
◾️Puts a 150-day clock on lawsuits and limits challenges to parties who commented and can show direct harm.
◾️ Stops courts from vacating a finished permit while an agency fixes a paperwork defect. Remand the document. Do not halt the job.
◾️ Keeps #CleanWaterAct Section 401 focused on water quality from a discharge, not a backdoor climate veto.
◾️ Makes statutory deadlines enforceable, including a path to court when agencies simply refuse to decide.
Environmental and safety standards stay. Endless process does not.
Senator Mike Lee put it cleanly: The bill makes it easier in America to build things.
Both parties claim they want lower power bills, more manufacturing, and data centers that do not stick households with the tab. None of that happens if every linear project spends a decade in review and another five years in court.
The Senate will need 60 votes after the midterms. Pass the bill. Finish the job this year. American energy should not have to wait in line for Washington’s bureaucracy.
As Tim Stewart, President of @US_OGA, said it all in a post Wednesday: "Pass the frickin' bill so we can start building things again."
The man is always right.
Pass the frickin' bill, congress.
That is all.
What do you pair with the upcoming elections & a lot of economic uncertainty? Why, wine & @karringham, obviously! Karr, Alliance President & Petroleum Economist, is the guest speaker at the Fort Worth SIPES Chapter's monthly luncheon, next Wednesday, Oct. 7. Looking forward to wine starting at 11:00 and lunch at 11:30! "Curtailing exports, many in the industry fear, will force them to downsize operations and lessen supply. Doing so could devastate parts of the energy sector, the bedrock of the Texas economy that employs hundreds of thousands of workers and pays billions in taxes." @carlosnogueras_ of the @TexasTribune
