"I got to have a shot
Of what you got is, oh, so sweet
You gotta make it hot
Like a boomerang, I need a repeat
Gimme all your lovin'
All your hugs and kisses too
Gimme all your lovin'
Don't let up until we're through"
On this day in 1836, Sam Houston, the victor of San Jacinto, was elected president of the newly founded Republic of Texas. My 4g granduncle James Parker (Cynthia Ann Parker’s uncle) had a love/hate relationship with Houston. James wrote, “[Sam Houston] is not a coward [and] God never made a braver man.” However, after several family members were killed and kidnapped at Fort Parker, James struggled with Houston’s response to the raid. After their meeting in the summer of 1836, James wrote, “Houston betrayed too great an indifference to the matter.”
