So proud of my 12 year old student, Ashley, who appeared on @agentjanefox's NPR show to talk about the future. Best part - when Ashley told the host never to give up on her dreams... Goosebumps!
A story 400 years in the making (to the month), now ready for your #ELLs! Especially designed for beginner and intermediate #ESL#tesol. Have fun! https://t.co/XR6EStTceL

Just finished... THIS! Hopefully it was worth every moment of spare time for many weeks! An adapted version of Poe's classic, for close reading. Totally #ELL accessible. Intermediate + above. Newcomer version coming soon! https://t.co/MyQleSX5XP. Gruesome, but I hope you like it!
The start of our Seedfolks project! Super excited. Many students hadn't planted seeds ever. We also had some green fingers in our midst. I'll be updating their Google Classroom every day with photos...
@chiara_bruzzano I'd also add, don't be afraid to use L1 language support to help with story comprehension. Students "getting" a great story is the most important step, no matter how you get there. Then you can start to play around with the language.
@chiara_bruzzano I love using lit with intermediate #ESL students! I would say:
1. You have to find a great story. It really has to be something that you're super enthusiastic about. It has to be worth the time and effort!
2. And of course, the language has to be accessible.
@PedroANoguera Powerful stuff - and in the vein of harvesting the wisdom of veteran teachers before they leave the profession, see the poignant "Γtre et avoir": https://t.co/0CJjqzfiZX
@chiara_bruzzano@ESL Self promo alert - I make my own materials too at https://t.co/KFmyFRtXoh, which combine vocab, grammar with adapted texts. Ex. I always wanted to read The Monkey's Paw, but the language is impossible for intermediates, so I adapted it. Main rule: have fun! DM for more ideas. π
If you want kids to love #literacy - LET THEM READ THINGS THEY LOVE! You can never be too old for a book, or the wrong gender. The books we love are the ones that make us readers, and choice is a right all readers should have.

Is there a Halloween story you wish was adapted for #ESL students? Last year I adapted The Monkey's Paw, because it's a great story but the original language is inaccessible. I'm thinking about a new one for this year....
