Lefty is a childhood nickname. Politics isn't bipolar, its 4D.
Main thing is compassion& integrity.
Only say what's beneficial, necessary, true...or funny.

@stevenacook@simonmontefiore It’s not this country vs that country. It’s people with power in any country vs those with less power in their own and other countries. The abuse of power happens in almost every nation, but the abuse can be mitigated by proper systems.
Work on those? No. Just blame the other.
@jja6767@katywigs@FranceskAlbs@ICRCPresident@DrTedros Google the experiences of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. You may be surprised. Yes later on when food and medicines were completely blocked there was deprivation for hostage and hostage taker alike but for the first year or so, they were well treated for the most part.
@MaryKostakidis Supporting you in your views and admiring your tenacity and moral clarity. Your attackers are dissemblers and hypocritical apologists for the worst crimes this century.
@AvidCommentator They have to consider this may affect reciprocal arrangements with other countries where Australian travellers, visitors, visa holders, expats are.
@clintballinger@Steinernomics Keynes saved capitalism from itself. Now we have post-Keynesians, often described as Social Dems.
Govt does what private sector cannot, will not shld not do, +counter balance to the real economy.
Just as private sector managers can make good/bad decisions so too public sector.
@tax_oz@fill_two_sh@AvidCommentator CGT with new regime is less tax on existing residence unless CG is 2x inflation rate, where the old one is less. I.E. like an inbuilt super profits "progressive" component.
For new builds investor has choice which system to go with I.E. anticipate inflation/time.
Ding dong
@tax_oz@fill_two_sh@AvidCommentator That *may have been the intention however as conditions change policies need to change. Discounts incl NG allowed for growing debt leveraging that led to prices rising faster thn inflation and most people's incomes, taxed without discount, has led to need for change. ½
@tax_oz@fill_two_sh@AvidCommentator Or consider that there may be things one hasn’t fully understood oneself before ‘polite’ ad hominem attacks?
The phrase is
“Correlation is not NECESSARILY causation”
It exists bc sometimes it is.
If a tax or tax discount didn’t alter investor behaviour why introduce it?
@deepfriedWA@fill_two_sh@AvidCommentator Good point. The common global factor is that neoclassical (aka neoliberal) economic principles are the dominant economic starting point of most govts, or imposed on them, after the monetarists’ coup of the late 1970s. A 20 yr sugar hit & now the decay is down to the roots.
@fill_two_sh@AvidCommentator Yes Howard timed it well. Coincided with the intro of CGT discounts - two tax changes that were regressive. Labor’s timing is about need more than electoral opportunity.
Construction cost blowouts are partly legacy of decade of coalition mismanagement & cuts to skills training
@jamesetta_w AIPAC exists for the interests of a foreign govt. Even if Israel was truly the secular pluralist liberal democracy it pretends to be rather than a militarily savage enforcer of sectarian dominance, no foreign govt should hold that much influence over one’s own nation’s govt.
@fill_two_sh@AvidCommentator Furphy. Investors get all the same tax benefits by investing in new builds. The sudden shift in the market indicates the NG & and CGT discounts were indeed what made house prices rise faster than inflation for two decades.
Immigration slumped 2020-24 but they still rose.
@RonnyLerner Incorrect. Israel demanded the Rafah crossing be shut then made the Egyptians withdraw a few kilometres further back. Israel decides who leaves Gaza. It has bn that way for decades.
When Israel allowed anyone to leave thru there, it made the news I.E. it was the exception.
