— When did you decide to make the transfer?

"Just like when I decided to move from Milan to Perugia, it was around the beginning of the year."

— Why did you choose Ziraat in the Turkish League, and how did you come to that decision?

"After spending so many years playing in Italy, I realized that I had turned 30 last year. As I thought about the path that would allow me to continue growing as a professional, I came to the decision to make this move."

"I received offers from several clubs, both inside and outside Italy, and as a professional athlete, the first thing I had to do was carefully evaluate the conditions. The criteria I used included not only each league's level of competition, but also the strength of the team itself—for example, whether they had qualified for next season's CEV Champions League, the highest-level competition in Europe, which I experienced winning back-to-back with Perugia.

I also considered transfer fees and salary, which are among the measures of a professional athlete's value. Above all, though, I asked myself whether I could grow in that environment and with that team. Would it be good for my development? That was my top priority."

"After winning four titles with Perugia this season, it was very difficult to find another club within Italy that could offer better overall conditions. Since becoming a professional, I've always based my transfers on moving upward without lowering my standards—whether in terms of results or salary—and choosing clubs that I genuinely wanted to join. I didn't want to change that approach this time either.

Maybe one day there will be a club that I'd want to join even if it meant accepting less favorable conditions. But I don't think that time is now..."

"I chose Ziraat Bankkart because the overall balance of the conditions was very good. And beyond that, the language I'll need for volleyball and daily life will change from the Italian I've become accustomed to to English.

The food, the lifestyle, everything will be different. Putting myself into that kind of new environment felt like it would bring me nothing but benefits. As for leaving Italy and playing in another country's league, I simply felt that it would be interesting to experience something completely new, at least once."

"I'll be stepping into an entirely new world, where the team, the language, the people, and the city are all different. Honestly, I can't really imagine what it will be like (laughs). But I have absolutely no anxiety. More than anything, I feel a sense of excitement and anticipation, and I'm really looking forward to it."

The word "challenge" (挑戦) is one that has long been associated with Ishikawa. In a previous interview, he expressed his philosophy this way:

"For me, I don't think of it as challenging a particular country or league. Because, ultimately, the one I'm always challenging is myself."

Tapi yang menarik, di kota Liverpool sebenarnya ada dua Liver Bird yang sangat terkenal.

Mereka berdiri di atas Royal Liver Building sejak tahun 1911 dan namanya adalah:

Bella (Perempuan)

Bertie (Laki-laki)

Menurut legenda yang paling populer,

Bella menghadap ke Sungai Mersey dan Laut Irlandia.

Tugasnya menjaga para pelaut yang pergi berlayar dan memastikan mereka bisa pulang dengan selamat. 

Sedangkan Bertie menghadap ke kota Liverpool.

Tugasnya menjaga keluarga yang menunggu para pelaut pulang ke rumah.

Tapi seperti semua legenda yang bagus, ceritanya ga berhenti di situ.

Ada cerita yang jauh lebih terkenal di Liverpool. Konon Bella dan Bertie sengaja dibuat saling membelakangi.

Karena jika suatu hari mereka saling berhadapan mereka akan jatuh cinta dan terbang bersama, yang menyebabkan Sungai Mersey meluap dan membanjiri seluruh kota. Itulah sebabnya patung-patung tersebut didesain saling membelakangi.

Yaha namanya, standar legenda mereka memang segitunya.

Makanya sampai hari ini kedua Liver Bird itu tetap berdiri di tempatnya.

Satu melihat ke laut.

Satu melihat ke kota.

Seolah menjaga Liverpool dari dua arah sekaligus.

Dan mungkin itu alasan kenapa banyak warga Liverpool sangat mencintai simbol ini.

Karena Liver Bird bukan sekadar logo klub.

Dia adalah simbol sebuah kota pelabuhan.

Kota yang selalu hidup di antara dua hal:

orang-orang yang pergi mengejar mimpi...

dan orang-orang yang menunggu mereka pulang. ❤
