Saw this on my Facebook feeds.. Given the circumstances with a particular community, it hit me pretty damn hard.. Keep all your friends and family as close to you as possible.. Let them know how much you truly love them..
As each day passes by, the more my own barriers start to build up.. You can't trust anyone in this world anymore.. not even your own friends or idols..
I am extremely disappointed in Trump and the latest budget cuts/mass firings of many crucial NOAA/NWS Employees.
The first response of those of us in the Weather Community should not be to point fingers and start dishing out blame and blanket statements. I genuinely believe the majority of Republicans did not want, nor expect this.
Those of us in this community come from so many different walks of life, each with their own valid political beliefs, but immediately pointing fingers is not the way to combat these current issues.
Instead of dividing this community any more, we all need to come together to protest and protect what we love, and more importantly, need, in this country, instead of fighting with each other over our own different beliefs.
Firing NOAA & NWS employees is going to have deadly consequences. They are the primary source of life-saving weather information. Your local TV station, favorite weather app, and YT weatherman all get their information from them. This is not going to end well.
NEW: A National Weather Service employee tells me office credit cards have been limited to $1, preventing repair of equipment, travel, etc.
This may affect tornado damage surveys next Tuesday/Wednesday.
I interned at the NWS in high school, have always contributed storm reports, and have a lot of friends current and retired NWS forecasters. I love the NWS even though many of the workers there are haters of ours. I am deeply familiar with how important their role is in the warning process, data collection, and numerical weather prediction as well as research. They all deserve our support. I’m not into politics - I dropped out of political science in 1999 to chase Hurricane Floyd and never looked back. The social sciences have never resonated with me. When I saw these firings happening, the least I could do is support my friends at the NWS with a post. I’m just a storm chaser
We have multiple chances for super tornado outbreaks through the middle of March! Now is not the time to carve up the National Weather Service! We at Team Dominator have always been huge supporters of our friends at the NWS. Even I cannot make a forecast without their valuable data and forecast model output. Please contact your representative in support of the NWS. Remember those missed tornado warnings in OK in November due to the office being short staffed? These problems could become more widespread with firings
This is devastating news. Today's reported layoffs at the NWS will impact our ability to keep Americans safe from extreme weather. These forecasters are essential frontline workers who save lives during hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods. Cutting these meteorologists isn't just short-sighted… it's dangerous.
STOP THE FIRINGS AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE!
I'm seeing dozens of employees on Twitter posting about being fired over the past hour. This should not be happening, when they save countless lives issuing warnings, watches, and forecasts.
These meteorologists keep us safe, day and night during severe storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, major flood events, and earthquakes. They are essential to our lives.
The NWS and NOAA are already understaffed, and these firings only hurt them more.
