The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam is a democratically elected Government of over a million strong Tamils living in several countries around the world.
Lawyers should engage in creative lawyering such as "LAWFARE" (using the law as a tool for peace negotiations) to create power symmetry. E.g. re the Sri Lanka-LTTE #Peace Talks: The LTTE delegation to the talks should have tried to persuade 3rd-party states to bring legal action
against #SriLankan political/military leaders when they visited the 3rd-party countries for the talks. I recently discussed this & more with the esteemed Dr. Paul R. Williams (@PLIPG1) on the riveting Lawyering Peace #podcast . Watch more here: https://t.co/5xQH3tERa4
I recently discussed how the LTTE's terrorist org designation (& more) contributed to the #Norwegian#Peace Talks failure w/ Dr. Williams (@PLPG1) on the Lawyering Peace #podcast. Some leading reasons the talks failed: (1) The #USA used the LTTE terrorist designation as an excuse
Sri Lankan #Constitution - which #tamils did not accept - did not make any sense. (3) Sri Lanka refused to allow #IDPs to return to their homes by maintaining a High-Security Zone. Interestingly, Sri Lankan Commander Sarath Fonseka stated that in order to maintain power
equilibrium, High-Security Zones would remain until the LTTE disarmed. In reality, the HSZs created power DISequilibrium / asymmetry. Watch the whole podcast in the @YouTube video here: https://t.co/5xQH3tERa4
#Peace Negotiations & Atrocity #Crimes: Behind the Scenes" re the Sri Lanka-LTTE #Peace Talks = Theme of the recent Lawyering Peace #podcast episode Dr. Paul R. Williams (@PILPG1) & I discussed (& more) how external actors/international powers disrupted the talks, upsetting the
power symmetry btwn #SriLanka & the LTTE that had been working, creating an asymmetrical relationship favoring #lka = 1 main reason for the negotiation's demise. E.g. asymmetry: Sri Lanka was allowed to import arms but the LTTE was prohibited from doing the same. Had there been a
moratorium on arms importation by Sri Lanka, the power symmetry (& thus, the peace negotiations) would have continued. Hear more about this & watch the full interview here: https://t.co/5xQH3tERa4
I'm honored Dr. Paul R. Williams (@PILPG1) recently hosted me on the Lawering Peace #podcast produced by Public International Law & Policy Group (@PILPG) to discuss the #SriLanka-LTTE #Peace Talks. 1 of the many topics & lessons learned discussed: The LTTE insisted that #SriLanka
revoke the LTTE #terrorist designation as a prerequisite for the talks. The LTTE should've also insisted that for 3rd party involvement in the talks, the 3rd parties should revoke the terrorist designation as a prerequisite. Watch more here: https://t.co/5xQH3tERa4
