Conservatism is about channeling the justified outrage of the people into safe vectors that will never actually threaten those in power.

How exactly is Israel our greatest ally?

Specifically, what have they done to earn that title? Israel has not deployed troops alongside US forces in any conflict since its founding in 1948.

Israel is by far the single largest recipient of American foreign aid in our history.

Adjusting for inflation, US aid to Israel from 1951 to 2022 totaled $317.9 billion, making it the largest recipient of American foreign aid since World War II.

Why don't we worry about fixing problems for everyday Americans instead of paving their streets with American tax dollars?

Explain to me how mass immigration is a 'left wing' concept.

I can't fathom how people swallowed this idea wholesale.

- Endless supply of cheap labour helps capitalists, not workers

- Strip mining of talent from developing countries is a form of neocolonialism

- Endless pressure on the housing market inflates assets and prevents the poorest from having reasonably priced homes

- A refusal to train enough people here removes vocation paths that the working class used to follow

- The most negative social and cultural second order consequences are happening to working class, deindustrialised or neglected areas

So it's left wing how?

I can see how anti-immigrant sentiment can be seen as ethnonationalism and therefore right wing.

But I can't see how support for mass immigration is left wing.

And to be clear: it's not just a part of left wing thought. It's now so central to left wing thought, apparently, that any divergence from this immediately makes you 'far right'.

Bank Holiday Sunday in Burnley town centre. The chain shops are open, the family firms are gone, the Wetherspoons does steady trade, and the Weaver's Triangle stands a hundred yards away as a heritage site, like Pompeii.

A century ago this town ran close to 100,000 cotton looms. More than any other town on Earth. Burnley wove the cloth of half the British Empire out of the bottom of a Lancashire valley, and the people who did the weaving came home each evening to streets that they owned, that they had built, that hummed with the activity of a town that knew what it was for.

The looms are gone. The activity is gone. The streets are still there. Four decades of slow decline have taken the shops on them one at a time, until what remains is a parade of the same dozen chains you would find in any other emptied town from Grimsby to Stoke-on-Trent.

The standard explanation is "globalisation." But this is a lie that has had thirty years to harden into a doctrine.

Bavaria still builds cars. Lombardy still spins textiles. Lyon still weaves silk. The Northern European cities that once competed with Burnley are still in the productive economy because their governments decided their industrial base was worth a fight. Britain decided otherwise. Specific people, in specific rooms, with specific names attached to specific Treasury submissions, decided that a country could subsist on financial services and call centres, and that the towns which built it could be left to manage their own decline on whatever Levelling Up grant happened to fall out of the next reshuffle.

Many families in Burnley today carry four, sometimes five generations of closure notices: pit, mill, foundry, factory, depot. The decline is intergenerational. It is also a choice that gets renewed every parliament.

There is no mystery about what built towns like Burnley. Productive industry, paid honestly, generating enough surplus that a working family could afford a terraced house, a few shillings to put by, and the dignity of a Sunday best. There is no mystery about what would rebuild them. Cheap energy. Real wages. A state that bothers to defend its industrial base when foreign competitors come knocking with subsidies the Treasury is too embarrassed to match.

It's time to put talks of 'levelling up' to death. The phrase stinks, always did; it belongs to a class of politicians for whom the town has always been a photograph behind a podium, a mere optimisation problem (and an unappealing one), rather than a working economy.

It's time to bring productive industry back to these places, not as a sentimental sop to them, because it can be done, and because it ought to be done. Because the country needs it built, and with the right people in charge we can build it at a scale that makes the return of confident, good work visible in the lifetime of the people now grown tired of being told it that, for them, prosperity is the stuff is pipe dreams.

Not to be an utter downer, but how boring is sport under mass migration.

You aren’t finding out who the fastest Australian sprinter is, just how fast an imported Sudanese migrant can run. It is vacuous and pointless, and ruins domestic opportunities for actual Aussies who should be Australian record holders, or competitors, and who are ranked in their ability against their own kin and countrymen. It is the same in all nations that have endured mass migration - The French olympic team is half African and Algerian for instance, they objectively aren’t French. This globalisation of ethnicities makes comparisons between nations less interesting, as all different ethnicities have their strengths, weaknesses, skills and talents. You used to be able to compare and contrast, and now it is all becoming much of the same for each country.

It is the same as Premier League football in the UK. How can grown men chant and scream for their area of their city, when the team is made up of Africans, Latin Americans, Spaniards and Middle easterners? It used to mean something, your area, your team, your own people representing your own town: now it is just a team of mercenaries who are imported from all over the world, who have no connection to the localities they play for.

Professionalisation and the corporatisation of sport was such a soulless development in modernity.
