Today, McConnell’s staff told press that he continues to “work” while in hospital, saying:

“The Senator continues to meet with staff regarding Senate and Kentucky business, including discussions on defense appropriations, foreign policy, the farm bill, constituent services and constituent federal...”

-No new photo or videos.
-No phone call, video or meetings with @AndyBeshearKY
-No contact with Senate Dems
-And @Cheering4Change who has constantly been covering the hospital hasn’t seen any other members of Congress visit
-His doctors won’t let him leave 5 weeks after a “minor fall with no complications”

But they expect us to believe he is working on Senate policy…?

He can manage in-depth work on appropriations but not basic updates to his constituents, his governor, or his colleagues?

It’s getting pretty clear we’re in elder abuse territory, where they are making statements on behalf of a man who is no longer capable, so they can cash Congressional staff checks.

That’s how long McConnell has been in hospital.

His doctors won’t let him leave.

We got one picture saying he is fine.

Thune claimed to have 20 min phone calls with him, but he can’t even call his state’s Governor?

At what point do we worry this is elder abuse?

Like there is a real chance McConnell is no longer of sound mind and capability, and his staff and Chao are covering that up for financial reasons.

I don’t like McConnell, and my first take was this was a political game.

But at a certain point, we also have to ask, if his staff won’t even acknowledge speaking to him… is he being taken advantage of for sake of Congressional salaries?!

You don’t want a full blown special election.

You actually want him to be audacious enough to try and appoint a replacement directly.

Let Republicans both have to produce proof of life of McConnell, and litigate if their statute trying to block governor appointments is legal under the state constitution.

Since it’s quite clearly not, there is an opportunity here, where you use McConnell’s absence not to win a seat (because Dems won’t pick it up) but to gain enough standing to litigate the statute and show you can defeat Republicans in court.

And to make sure that if Rocky Adkins picks up the Governorship next, he would have appointment powers.
