Choose the Cape chestnut, as it is an indigenous tree. It produces spectacular flowers, and its roots are less invasive and its branches less brittle than those of the jacaranda. Oh and it grows faster than Jacaranda too.
The British elite schoolboys, who came here as administrators, were trained to believe that politics is noise of the rabble, the frivolous natives and their chiefs, and then the administrators do the "serious" work of development. Of course, colonial administrators were hopelessly ignorant, behaving like politicians who based projects on their preference or interest, like a road (conveniently to their house), or latrines... with no coherent political philosophy of organizing the economy to uplift the people. Each time a colonial civil servant would replaced, he would leave the previous project unfinished, and and the new civil servant would start his own fancy (and what will line his own pocket).
At independence, that colonial arrangement graduated into an agreement between Kenyan politicians and civil servants. Karen Nyamu and company can say the stupidest things to us Kenyans as politics, but when the politicians are in London or Nanyuki, they go with Dr. Amoth, Mary Muthoni or Dr. Oluga to make Kenya giving up its health sovereignty look posh, cultured and scientific.
That's why, if you read Kenyan academic publications, Kenya looks coherent, a faithful implementer of "international standards." Every academic study/thesis looks the same: start with praising "international" policy, discuss research on the hiccups in a specific region, and end with recommendations on how to make "implementation" work in that specific region. Of course, there's no discussion of the fact that the "international development" is really imperialism and can never work for Africans.
This is why civil servants, and their brethren in the NGO space, are notoriously condescending to us, lecturing us to accept imperialist policy for our own good. They figure we have the politicians to entertain us with nonsense at the rallies that, of course, the international media do not report. Their role is to panel beat us to make us presentable to the "international communirrry." That's why if you tell outsiders that Kenyan politicians make Jean-Bidel Bokassa look like a saint, they find it difficult to believe. We clean up very well, like Buckingham Palace looking all posh while the rabble in No. 10 Downing behave like clowns. We learned from the best.
@GermanyinKenya@russembkenya Germany advances settler colonialism to this day, especially with its continued political, diplomatic, and military support to the terrorist zionist entity in Occupied Palestine. It is the entity’s second-largest arms supplier (after the US).
Not a good legacy.

Instead, you are crying dumbfoundedness in a country where the govt built an ebola center by force, and outside procedure, despite local resistance - the same local population now making quite serious linkages between that forced construction, and the spread of ebola in Kenya.
Sitting in KFC for 10 years will not turn you into a piece of breaded chicken though? What you are calling "disparate theories", especially in the political economy of public health, are actually A Story, which you would be following up on if you put on your journalist's cap.
Let's be clear: Ebola did not "spread" to Kenya. The US and Kenya governments BROUGHT Ebola to Kenya, the US out of racist contempt for Africans, and Kenya out of twisted desire to prove to massa that it can meet "international standards" of disease response, and out of its evil greed for US dollars.
@Lasterbosire@wmnjoya Daktari, conspiracy theories aside, I think we need to agree that public health (beside the discipline of medicine) is socio-political. Govt opened the door to Ebola politics the moment they acquiesced to US demands for the quarantine centre in Laikipia a year before elections.
As the latest villain in the imperialist medical campaign called "Africans should shut up about their own health," I will remind us the psychological effect of this passive aggressive attack. I'm just the collateral damage. The goal is to shut us up about our own health. It's insane to detach people from their own health. Yet that alienation is always wielded against Africans.
Sweetie, don't bother shaming me. You took me literally and I was commenting on a whole political-medical approach to public health. Medicine is not biology alone. But this is the typical "international standards" rhetoric of people like you who hang around wazungu too much and choose to censor us Africans on biology alone.
Your gaslighting tactics may have worked with covid where you silenced us on the so-called "science." This time I'm not backing down. I have commented on public health, theology, education, policy and politics. I'm also an expert.
Medicine doesn't belong to you alone.
You are VERY STUPID. I hope Kenyans do not fall for your namby-pamby horseshit. You're a journalist, not a scientist. Scientists are giving their opinion, you, an ordinary megaphone, are saying something else.
The largest private donor to the BBC is Bill Gates.
The world's largest single investor in vaccines is also Bill Gates.
Do the maths.
A quick cognitive test for adult Kenyans to establish intellectual viability before you procreate: Do you believe that Aliko (blaaaarifakin) Dangote is the one who has bought 25% of Kenya Pipeline Company? 😆😂😂🤣
This KPC deal is how "Private Investors" work
Do they build a new pipeline? Nooo, why would you think so?
They cheaply take a national asset that previous generations built to guarantee fuel security and affordability, and turn it into a for-profit private asset
Now you understand where Dangote's bravado came from. All along, the deal had been cooked right from the top to the point of forcing pension funds & state agencies to buy-and-hold KPC shares for him. This is a bandit economy!
