What's fascinating is how clearly they demonstrate the progress of Chinese manufacturing. The finishing, the textures, the complexity of the dials — these are not easy things to execute at their price points.
And yet, looking at some of their products, I can't shake the feeling that all that technical ability is in service of the wrong goal.
It's as if the watchmaker wants you to notice everything they've managed to accomplish, rather than how beautifully the whole thing comes together.
The result is products that are absolute technical spec monsters, but look garish af. San Martin is prime example.
Perhaps that's the next frontier for Chinese manufacturing: moving beyond proving what is technically possible, towards understanding what is actually beautiful.
What do you think about Chinese watches?
I don't know much about them but from what little I have seen about them online they seem to be decent and are not expensive at all. I wonder what there QC is like as that could be the biggest let down.
If you had asked me this 5 years ago I would have said yes, it feels just like yesterday. But something flipped in me, seemingly overnight, in my late thirties that made childhood seem like a long time ago. It happened around 37.
@opheliamoding@JungAristotle It's literally just old heads being homesick and excited to meet someone they think might be from home.

Before I was privy to American diaspora politics, I once heard a kid calling another 'sohai' in San Francisco. The homesick Malaysian in me got super excited and asked him if he was from Malaysia, because 'sohai' is a very Malaysian insult.
He looked at me super offended and said 'pffft no, I'm American' as if id just told him to 'go back to where he came from'.
His day was clearly ruined, and I was sad that my desperate bid for connection was mistaken as racism.

i hate asking asian americans where theyre from because they always do that desperate for attention thing where they huff and loudly proclaim theyre from [insert city in america] when that is indeed what i was actually asking about
"I just want to use your body for pleasure but I think you are beneath committing to".
This is an unfair read. Incompatibility doesn't mean that one is beneath the other. Women often have sex with men they know they're incompatible with and wouldn't date. Doesn't necessarily mean they're something wrong with the person.
Never considered this, but it also makes sense from a Broken Window POV. Allowing cruelty towards AI could have spillover societal effects like how internet anonymity and distance has made a lot a people very comfortable with being assholes.

any form of cruelty, whether toward an animal, an ai model, or another human being, is obviously just plain wrong.
i don't think consciousness, pain, or the capacity to suffer should be prerequisites for kindness.
even if something cannot suffer, what exactly is the point of being cruel to it?
I don't see the problem. He was honest and respectful. Sometimes you know you're not compatible for a long term relationship despite being attracted to someone.
'Using you' would be stringing you along with the hope of a long term relationship when he knows that will never happen.
I don't understand why anyone would use the Smith machine to squat. Free barbells are so much safer!
That being said, keep practicing your bail. When I used to powerlift, I used to practice bailing atleast one a month to keep my muscle memory active. It should feel like second nature to dump that barbell mid squat.
And dont go anywhere near failure on big compound movements like squats and deadlifts. Not worth it at all.
I know I wasn't in love with the concept. But time is a healer...
I quite like the new Jaguar!
Captain of industry vibes- Unlike 7 series and S-class airport drop-off aesthetic.
The auntie at the Chinese take out place near me told me that they stopped selling Char Siu (BBQ pork belly) because pork belly has gotten too expensive.
I would be super sad if it were to disappear from the menu at most Chinese places.
