This striking video clip shows opposition candidate Brian Mundubile entering Northwestern Province, the centre of operations for First Quantum Minerals, the Canadian mining giant which, according to @Global_Witness, is “bankrolling President Hichilema” and has “diverted [$771m] away from the copper-rich nation’s indebted economy and its people.”

The province is also a ruling party stronghold. Mining corporations can easily buy Zambia’s ruling elite, but ultimately it is poor and ordinary voters who will decide the 13 August election. I maintain that Hichilema will lose and there is little he can do now to change his fate apart from reckless industrial-scale vote rigging.

Goodbye, Mr @HHichilema. Your presidency was good for tribalists, the corrupt, and foreign commercial interests, but it has been a five-year nightmare for many Zambians.
