I launched a new podcast today. It's called The Long Obedience. It's for Christian husbands and fathers. Episode 1 starts with a confession. #TheLongObedience https://t.co/0ove2KjIza
I almost didn't launch this podcast. I had a panic attack while I was finalizing episode 1. Sat there staring at the screen, heart racing, my whole body trembling, thinking, "I can't do this. I can't put this out there."
4.5 years out of rehab, I still struggle with telling the story of my failure. I still wrestle with the voice that says, "Who are you to teach anyone anything? You blew up your own life."
Transparency is humiliating sometimes.
But I have two very special people in my corner who kept pushing me to do this (Love you, Tater & Nugget). And a while back I made a policy: when those people tell me to do something, I do it. Even when I don't feel ready. Even when I'm not sure I have anything worth saying. Even when I'm having a panic attack.
So I launched #TheLongObedience. And in the first 48 hours, over 1,400 people listened to episode 1.
I don't know what to do with that except say thank you and admit that I'm still showing up to this thing scared.
Here's my hope, plain and simple: that something I've learned from my wreckage might help some man out there avoid the mistakes I made as a husband and father. That's it. That's the whole reason this exists.
