Frida Kahlo was a celebrated Mexican artist best known for her intense, brilliantly colored self-portraits. Born on July 6, 1907, in Coyoacán, Mexico, she grew up in a house later known as the Blue House, or La Casa Azul. After surviving a serious bus accident as a teenager, Kahlo endured lifelong pain and many medical treatments, experiences that deeply shaped her art.
Her paintings often explored identity, suffering, love, Mexican culture, and the female experience. She used vivid colors, symbolic imagery, and elements of folk art to create a style that was deeply personal and instantly recognizable. Although she was married to the famous muralist Diego Rivera, Kahlo developed her own powerful artistic voice. Today, she is remembered as one of Mexico’s most important artists and as a lasting symbol of strength, individuality, and creative expression. #OTD
Hopper painted Blond Woman Before an Easel (1903–06) during his early training in New York. The soft light and subdued palette reflect his early observational realism—an approach he'd later sharpen into the clarity and stillness of his mature work. #artbots#hopper
