@BikeMan On the other side though, if a streamer keeps going and ignores ads coming up leading to viewers missing big moments, or interrupting conversations, then that can be a big negative even with low ad frequency.
@BikeMan 3 min every 30 minutes is reasonable, but ad frequency alone isn't the only thing that impacts viewers experience with ads. For example viewers are more accepting of longer ads if they know they wont miss content as the streamer pauses, or holds off on doing major story stuff.
@RageDarling That being said, the cost to multi-stream is minimal, with it being easier now than ever, so for Twitch/Youtube there's not much reason not to. Streaming to vertical platforms isn't as lucrative as it used to be, but again there's limited barrier to entry.
@RageDarling When multi-streaming started there was significant benefits. Now those other platforms are also becoming saturated and the ROI is diminished, so the experience of a streamer now vs months/years ago is not the same.
@RageDarling Plus platforms like Twitch are less lucrative now as there was a big boom in growth during the pandemic, but following on from that its showing signs of stagnation. There's certainly still growth, and by no means is Twitch dying, but publishers/creators need to adapt.
@RageDarling There's lots of factors at play, such as the disruption in the games industry (~3,300 layoffs and 13 studios closed this year, plus previous years still having a knock-on effect) and the cost-cutting can also impact marketing budgets.
For any @bitfocusio Companion users we've just put up a survey that we'd appreciate people to take a moment to fill in https://t.co/fVP0JpYx55
These surveys help give us insight on how people are using Companion within their production, and guide us on focusing dev time. Thanks!
chat kept tellin me stream sounded weird and i was losin my mind cuz of course nothign changes etc
windows updated overnight and it was the "AI" update
this fun little feature was on by default and made everything sound awful -- hope it helps some folks by posting it
After 10 years, I've finally replaced my aging Logitech g600 mouse. I would have kept using it but left click was causing double clicks, and the wheel was having issues. Best mouse I've ever owned, it's sad they discontinued it otherwise I'd have just got another.
Just venting frustration, but something has to be done with the NHS when the wait time for my dad at A&E last night was 8 hours 45 min. Thankfully it wasn't critical, but even for low priority issues (that can't wait till a GP appointment) shouldn't have to wait thst long.
What they've actually done is to exploit a ton of women in gaming - I've not had a single invoice from this year paid, and they had a non-compete clause for their sponsor Sky Broadband for the five month period that I hosted for them, blocking me from actually making money.
@RageDarling I'd suggest checking the wording of the contract itself, and if you're unsure then reach out to a legal expert as something that can result in potential civil issues should not be trusted to armchair lawyers on Twitter.
I still remember helping to run #wow on Quakenet over 20 years ago during the closed beta onwards, and I've played off and on since then, skipping some expansions, but after all this time I still get so hyped to play a release and and quest with friends!
The main reason I'm bringing this up now, is at this moment I see a CS tournament being streamed and they have Companion, their ATEM, multiple vMix machines, multiple OBS instances, and much more all publicly accessible to be controlled by anyone.
As a security reminder to anyone working in broadcast production, please stop making any of your setup such as Companion, vMix, or any others accessible to the internet!
Remote production is a great thing that has grown since the pandemic, but do it securely.

@player1event@IGFestUK It's crazy that a large part of my career path was due to the Stage Team manager getting to my volunteer app a few days before the IT team did :D
I knew nothing about stage production, but they taught me so much, and the rush of working a live production got me hooked!
Seeing the layoffs at @player1event today is the worst, they're an incredibly talented group of people, and like many others I got my start in the industry by volunteering, and eventually contracting, at @IGFestUK from i59 until the pandemic. I wish everyone all the best!
