I was recently in France and interviewed by Nadjet Cherigui who wrote a story about my trip to Paris for @Le_Figaro's Magazine. The trip was organized by @dkhalfa who published a book to which I contributed about October 7 and Gaza. In it, she describes my strong feeling that one can be pro-Palestine and anti-Hamas and armed “resistance” slogans, which have become highly normalized and celebrated in “pro-Palestine” activism. It’s easy to chant for Israel’s destruction from Europe and Western cities, but it is the Palestinians who must live with the consequences of dealing with the Israeli government and Islamist group like Hamas, and a dysfunctional national project that has been stalled for 30 years thanks to violence which has harmed the Palestinians and set them back.
I reiterated my commitment to hope and proposing pragmatic solutions despite everything that I and my family, including my grandparents who experienced the 1948 Nakba, have gone through. Importantly, I made it clear that my fierce opposition to Hamas doesn’t in the slightest ignore the criminality of Netanyahu or my opposition to the military occupation of the Palestinian Territories and the illegal, violent settlement enterprise. I pleaded with folks to reject extremism, antisemitism, hate, and divisive rhetoric that does nothing to help solve the conflict and further aggravates tensions throughout France, which, like many European countries, has seen a rise in temperature around this issue in the most unhelpful and destructive ways. Palestinians are not monolithic in their thinking and beliefs, and neither are the Jewish or Israeli people – think, speak, and act accordingly.
less body positivity more body neutrality! every natural part of your body/face doesn’t need to be beautiful or sexy, you can just exist in peace without constantly having to appear attractive
@HKXtine @aybCEEdeeznuts When we start to get into it, I stop & ask “is this me vs you? Or this you & me vs The Problem.” It’s changed how to speak to each a lot. Early in our marriage we didn’t fight well at all.
Ah, the goodreads awards. The time of year where I aggressively vote for books that deserve it while knowing two specific mediocre white women are going to win no matter what.
Arizona will now have a Democratic governor and 2 Democratic senators for the first time in 72 years.
In case you were wondering how the “red wave” is going.
@jg091297@PaulAguioTveit@celticsredsox1@e1rlindsay@TimRunsHisMouth AZ allows mail-in ballots to be turned on physically on ED. Bc that ballot is specific it needs a signature verification separate of voting machines. Our system has worked since the 1990s it’s only bc of hyper-partisanism that it’s questioned.
