Why bugs escape to production and why you would still be blamed for it 📍

Even if its your first day of QA, you would still be the first point of contact to ask "Why, how, a bug got to production. This is not about whether QA should be the first point of questioning, It’s about

1. Unclear or evolving requirements
When requirements are vague, incomplete, or constantly changing:
🔻QA tests based on assumptions
🔻Developers implement based on interpretation
🔻Product expects something else entirely

These tests ask the following questions

Smoke test:
Does the app basically work?

Sanity test:
Does this specific change work?

Regression test:
Did we break anything old?

Smoke Testing

The app is ready for testing, you need to quickly checks on critical feature (app opens, login works, main page loads).

If smoke test fails → there’s no point continuing test, testing is automatically paused

Sanity Testing

There’s been an update to a feature. So we are checking if the updated feature works

Not full coverage, just confidence.

Regression Testing

We are retesting existing features to ensure old functionality still works after changes.

For the last time, WFH is a full-time job not a flex. I don’t even blame people that see it as a flex again atp. Cos some of you WFH and will still be taking your meetings inside market. How wouldn’t they think you’re chilling?

It’s a full-time round the clock job, respect that!

At a minimum, every QA should understand:
• Functional testing
• Regression testing
• Smoke & sanity testing
• Performance testing
• Security testing

You don’t need to master everything at once. Start small. Build steadily.

Depth beats overwhelm.
