Every young golfer with dreams of reaching the PGA TOUR should be fired up about today’s announcement.
This two-tier system, plus the Korn Ferry Tour, gives guys more places to compete.
The talent in men’s professional golf has outgrown the opportunities. This changes that.
While the PGA Championship grabs the headlines, the ‘STORY OF THE YEAR’ just happened on the Ladies European Tour.
In 2013, Leonie Harm went for a run & was hit by a drunk driver. She was given a 4% chance to live.
Harm just holed a putt on 18 for her first @LETgolf title. 🥲
6,811 yards is the official distance of the first women’s major this week
Some people think it’s too long. I couldn’t disagree more.
Women’s golf is where the WNBA was five years ago before Caitlin Clark. It had little fanfare, small tv audiences, and minimal media coverage.
What if women’s basketball had done what many suggest women’s golf should do — make the game easier?
Would Clark be a megastar if she was burying logo 3s on an 8-foot goal? No chance.
Shortening courses won’t grow women’s golf. Athleticism and personalities will. So will playing better golf courses.
No offense to the older guys, but when I grew up watching the PGA TOUR, many of them had pot bellies. Tiger Woods changed it. He made the tour more athletic AND dynamic.
Making golf courses for the women longer, firmer, and faster will force the women’s game to become more athletic… and every sports fan knows that’s when people really start paying attention.

Tiger isn’t an “elder statesman” just yet. But he’s still the face of the game.
It’s great to see him this happy, relaxed, and with a renewed appreciation for it all.
He’s earned it.
Since 2020, the only player to win The Masters without *multiple* PGA TOUR wins in the same year coming in is Hideki Matsuyama.
For the first time in his career, Rory McIlroy enters the week with two TOUR wins (this year) before teeing it up at Augusta National.
Form coming into The Masters *is* important, but don’t forget…
When Hideki Matsuyama won in 2021, his last five starts on TOUR were (most recent listed first):
T30
T42
MC
T18
T15
I’ve said it for years: GOLF is the only sport that can buy fans with its venues.
I hope the next LPGA commissioner makes this a priority.
Let’s be honest, would as many people watch the Augusta National Women’s Amateur without the *Augusta* component?
Of course not.
We all know that growing a sport with a “megastar” talent is risky business. Unfortunately, the Tiger Woods and Caitlyn Clarks of the world are anomalies.
So, again, I go back to venues.
I mean no disrespect to the courses the LPGA plays and truly appreciate the support of their sponsors—including Chevron, which has poured millions into the women’s game.
But Carlton Woods isn’t Mission Hills…and it certainly isn’t Oakmont.
You may wonder why I put a photo of Cypress Point in this post. It’s easy.
My advice to the next commissioner is MAKE THIS COURSE A PRIORITY.
Marion Hollins was one of the great golf course developers of the 20th century. Her fingerprints are all over Cypress Point, Augusta National, and Pasatiempio.
Can you imagine “The Marion Hollins LPGA Championship, presented by Mastercard?” I can. It just takes the right focus and pitch to make it happen.
There are venues out there like Cypress Point that have reasons (like Hollins) to be invested in the women’s game. The stories are endless and compelling. And they’re begging to be told.
It’s time to get these women on truly compelling venues…and just like ANWA, the viewers and spectators will show up in droves.
Why short game matters…
When Sam Stevens started working with Joe Mayo he was 138th on the @PGATOUR in scrambling.
The following season (last year) he was 33rd. 💥
