I toured @the_ALSC Laboratory yesterday. The ALSC has provided comprehensive sampling & long-term monitoring of Adirondack lakes, providing information that informs policy making protecting the lungs of New Yorkers suffering from asthma and other respiratory illnesses.

“You’re tired, you’re wet, you’re filthy, you smell like old gill net, but you finally get out and have a shower and a cold beer and life is good again,” said Rick Costanza, who worked as a field scientist on the 1980s survey.

Spent some time in the field today with Phil Snyder and Sue Capone of @the_ALSC. They’ve collected water samples on Lake Colden on a near monthly basis since 1992
To celebrate the planned merger between AsRA and ALSC, Leanna and Phil sampled four lakes yesterday that are part of the Adirondack Long Term Monitoring Program.
This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen both of our organizations through scientific collaboration, with the shared goal of preserving and protecting the air and water resources of the Adirondacks.

We were sampling on Avalanche Lake yesterday as part of our February #Adirondack long term monitoring program. We measured 63cm (25 in) of hard, clear ice on the south end of the lake. It was a blue bird day, and the skiing was fantastic. #winterlimnology
We were in the Pigeon Lake Wilderness this week completing the last open water sampling of the season on our #Adirondack long term monitoring waters. The ponds were thoroughly mixed with water temps in the high 30s. Time to put away the canoe and sharpen the auger blades.
This week we began the late fall sampling of our #Adirondack long term monitoring waters with a trip to Avalanche lake and Lake Colden. Lots of activity at Lake Colden as the DEC resupplied the interior outpost for the winter. Water temps are consistent 42 degrees.@NYSDEC
