Boeing has completed high-speed braking tests for the 777-9 at Edwards Air Force Base, simulating a rejected takeoff under full-load conditions.
The test pushed the aircraft’s braking system to its limits, with temperatures reaching 1,371°C. The brakes then had to withstand the extreme heat for five minutes without catching fire, replicating the time needed for emergency crews to respond.
As a safety precaution, the tyres were deflated to prevent explosions during the test.
Successfully passing this rejected takeoff (RTO) evaluation marks another important step toward certification for the 777-9. The test is designed to confirm that the aircraft can safely handle extreme operational scenarios and demonstrates the strength of its braking system under maximum load.
This milestone is part of Boeing’s broader 777-9 certification programme ahead of the aircraft’s entry into commercial service with airlines such as Lufthansa.
A section of the roof at Terminal 3 of Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesia collapsed this afternoon, Monday, April 6, 2026, after heavy rain hit the area.

The FAA is investigating after a close call between an Alaska Airlines flight and a FedEx cargo plane at Newark Airport on Tuesday night.
The FAA says an air traffic controller instructed Alaska Airlines Flight 294 to perform a go-around because FedEx Flight 721 was cleared for the final approach to an intersecting runway.
Confirmation that the Iranian KC- 747 Tanker - the last one still flying - was destroyed at Merhabad on a raid by the Israelis. Do note that while it was built as a tanker, it hadn´t operated in that mission for years (it was used as a freighter)
A USAF KC-135 has crashed over Iraq, with preliminary reports suggesting a mid-air collision may be to blame.
Aerial refueling is one of aviation's most demanding operations. What crews make look seamless in practice is a precise, high-stakes choreography of speed, altitude, and communication, and when it goes wrong, it goes wrong fast. The video below, captured a few years ago, shows just how thin the margin for error really is.
