@DARPA has selected Professor Tam Nguyen to lead an effort to improve detection and tracking of objects in cislunar space, with Advanced Space supporting the work. 🔭

Cislunar space spans more than 200,000 miles in radius, collision risk is rising, and no single system today covers the full volume. Nguyen, assistant professor at the @UofMaryland, is designing a mission that pairs commercial off-the-shelf optics with efficient search and detection algorithms, placing a space telescope at a vantage point intended to view the cislunar region in its entirety. Advanced Space will be handling the flight software development and systems engineering for the project.

Bob Cone, Strategic Advisor at Advanced Space, is one of 21 regional leaders selected for the LEAD Metro North Class of 2027. 🎉

Twenty-one people from aerospace, healthcare, county government, utilities, construction, and media now spend nine months visiting businesses and working through the issues shaping Adams County.

More than 1,800 people have come through regional chamber leadership programs since 1986, with many going on to serve boards, commissions, and elected office. Bob will represent Advanced Space and the aerospace sector in this year’s class.

NASA has awarded Advanced Space a follow-on Phase II SBIR contract to mature Lunar Sentinel for close-approach risk assessment of objects at the Moon. 🏆🌕

The project, managed by the Small Spacecraft and Distributed Systems team, part of the NASA RTMD, at @NASAAmes, focuses on developing algorithms to detect, track, and catalog non-transmitting objects in Low Lunar Orbit (LLO) using a hybrid network of lunar-surface and in-space optical sensors.

Advanced Space will mature an end-to-end autonomous cataloging and risk-assessment capability, including detection network design, track association, orbit determination, conjunction assessment, and long-term catalog maintenance.

The work is intended to provide a framework for a future distributed lunar-orbit cataloging and space-traffic-management constellation with minimal reliance on Earth.

Advanced imaging capabilities are coming to CAPSTONE 02.

We’re excited to partner with @Livermore_Lab (LLNL), whose tri-optic imaging payload will bring advanced optical capabilities to the mission.

The payload will image CAPSTONE 02’s companion spacecraft at ranges relevant to rendezvous and proximity operations, providing data supporting relative navigation. It will also observe the Moon, Earth, star fields, and distant solar-system objects to support mission imaging and navigation.
