“I tell my students, ‘When you get these jobs that you have been so brilliantly trained for, just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else”. - Toni Morrison born Feb 18.
From our earliest days, Black history has always been American history – and Black folks have profoundly shaped our American culture through music, art, literature, sports, and beyond. One month a year is not sufficient to celebrate the power of the movements and the people who have fought for the rights we enjoy today. That’s something that we have to do each and every day, as we strive to live up to their example and make sure our children and grandchildren remember their stories.
Quarterly reminder: The majority of the people who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War were too poor to even own slaves. But they wanted Black people to stay in bondage so bad that they were willing to die to make it happen. Now apply that to present day…
MAGA claims that “DEI” stands for “Didn’t Earn It” is remarkable because in reality, generating historic wealth through 2 billion acres of stolen land from Native Americans, enslaving Black people for 300 years, banning Asian immigration until 1965, & banning women from financial access til 1974—all without paying a single red cent in reparations or restitution—is the living breathing example of not earning it.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven.

Marcellus Williams, a Black man, was executed on September 24, despite credible evidence that called his conviction into question and widespread support for clemency. Governor Mike Parson refused to grant it.
Today, Parson commuted the sentence of Eric DeValkenaere, a white Kansas City police officer convicted of murdering Cameron Lamb, a Black man, after unlawfully entering his property without a warrant. DeValkenaere walked free.
A Black man with overwhelming evidence of innocence: Executed.
A white officer guilty of killing a Black man: Released.
This is more than a miscarriage of justice—this is systemic racism in action.
