The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched an ambitious and people-centric initiative — #OperationLungs — with the goal of transforming Visakhapatnam into a greener, cleaner, and healthier city for all.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Sri Ketan Garg IAS, GVMC is working tirelessly to:

🚫 Remove unauthorized encroachments from parks, roads, junctions, and footpaths
🚶 Improve pedestrian access and ease traffic congestion
🧼 Ensure public health by cracking down on unhygienic and unsafe food stalls
🛍️🛍️ Identify, Organize, and Empower Street Vendors by providing them with well-planned, designated vending zones where they can operate safely, legally, and without obstruction — ensuring both livelihood security for vendors and convenience for the public.
🌳 Reclaim public spaces and improve urban greenery

So far, over 2,470 encroachments have been cleared, making our roads and public spaces more accessible, safer, and cleaner for everyone — all while ensuring vendors have proper, organized spaces to carry on their livelihood.

"Operation Lungs is not against anyone. This initiative is in the interest of public health, safety, and convenience. We aim to make roads accessible, food safe, and the city livable for all while supporting the livelihoods of vendors."
