If there’s a bright center to the Universe, I’m the person it’s farthest from. Pronouns have lost their amateur status. But for those keeping score — he/him.
@realrileyhayes@TipOfTheBanana Generally, yes, but not always. When I was 1st navigating unseen obstacles to being veg. back in the 80s, the guide was: if the ingredients read ‘cheese culture, salt, rennet’, it was *not* vegetarian (the rennet coming from a dead cow). ‘Cheese culture, salt, enzymes’ was safe.
@RailroadRaccoon Is that entire ROW west of PGH still completely intact? I’m old & working from memory, but I recall Conrail severed the old PRR main west of PGH in a couple places.
I know there are nearby alternatives, but just how creative would they need to be w/ROW permission/acquisition?
@Colin_d_m NYC and the northeast in general have a number of available (OOS but not officially abandoned) ROWs that could be used to improve regional passenger transit. The Class 1s don’t like giving them up.
@TipOfTheBanana I miss the days of my youth, with the gigantic barrels of pickles in the deli area of the local grocery stores, just waiting for you to reach in with the clamps and grab a couple.
@NPPendleton@MidwesternPRA Big problem w/extending to Pittsburgh is — if I recall correctly — that since portions of the PRR mainline ROW west of PGH have been severed, there would need to be…creative…connections to nearby lines made to restore that kind of service.
@DonpaulStephens@RailroadRaccoon Except those lines weren’t built exclusively for freight. They were built for passenger *and* freight service. Practically every inch of mainline Class 1 trackage remaining in the US was used for passenger service in its heyday.
They’ve since been *optimized* for freight, yes.
