Slop is just a function of tech. The moment something gets cheap to produce, you get slop of it.
But slop is not just a descriptor of quality, but also quantity (lots)
Cheap writing (gutenberg, ai) -> slop writing
Cheap food -> slop food
Cheap clothes -> slop clothes
growing up i only heard "lower/middle/upper class" used to get at how much money you had + some nebulous status thing, basically ignoring any structural stuff that would actually shape the interests of different groups
this made it take way longer for me to notice many things
@ResonantPyre I really wanted to like it tho. And it seemed ... close? Close to what I wanted from him (strong coherent atmosphere, moral sense, etc.)
I think I'll try 'a perfect spy'. it sounds like it was more like what i was looking for, and more mature besides
@ResonantPyre With le carre, the world seemed much more narrow, and the writing was inconsistent (e.g. it felt like le carre himself interjected from time to time - kinda jarring)
