When Michael Jackson died in 2009, his estate owed creditors over $500 million and was on the verge of forced liquidation. It's now worth more than $2 billion. The new MJ biopic just made $217 million in three days, the biggest biopic opening ever.
Two years ago, Sony Music quietly paid around $600 million for half of Michael Jackson's catalog: Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller, all of it. The full catalog got valued at $1.2 to $1.5 billion, the highest price ever paid for one artist's music. Sony bet this catalog would keep earning forever and that a hit movie would push it higher. Before MICHAEL opened, the Jackson estate was already pulling in around $75 million a year from streams and royalties. Bohemian Rhapsody, the 2018 Queen biopic, kept their songs charting for years afterward. Same producer, Graham King.
Lionsgate spent $200 million making the movie. The original budget was $155 million. The number ballooned because the estate's lawyers had forgotten about a clause in an old legal settlement that barred them from showing the accuser onscreen, so the entire ending had to be reshot. The estate paid $10 to 15 million for the new scenes. Director Antoine Fuqua walked away with $25 million in pay (a $10 million base plus a $15 million bonus for the trouble). Producer Graham King got $16 million ($6 million plus a $10 million bonus).
Critics hated it. The film sits at 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and one review called it an "infomercial." Audiences disagreed completely and gave it a 97 percent score on the same site, the highest audience score ever for a music biopic. About 6.3 million people in the US and Canada bought tickets at an average price of $15. Lionsgate's internal target is $700 million worldwide. Bohemian Rhapsody, the high water mark for music biopics, finished its run at $910 million.
If MICHAEL hits that target, the Jackson estate gets years of extra income from a catalog that already brings in $47 million a year from records and song royalties. Sony, which now owns half, gets the same lift on the bet it placed two years ago. The film ends with a card that reads "His Story Continues." Lionsgate is already prepping the sequel.
Rory McIlroy is an investor in Whoop, wears one of the company's wristbands while playing, and allows the brand to share his data periodically.
Here are some of his Masters highlights:
• 24,000+ steps on Sunday
• 91,000+ steps during the tournament
Rory's heart rate spiked to 135 BPM during his tee shot on 18, dropped to 121 BPM during his approach shot, fell further to 105 BPM during his winning putt, and then jumped back up to 150 BPM during his celebration.
His resting heart rate for the week was 47-49 BPM.
Rory says he follows a strict routine during the PGA Tour season to ensure proper rest and recovery:
• No caffeine after 2 PM
• Last meal at least 2 hours before bed
• Magnesium and theanine for sleep quality
• Blue-light-blocking glasses in the evening
• Sauana or Epsom salt bath when available
• Cool room temperature for sleep
He follows the same three-hour routine before every round: arrive at the course → warm up in the gym → eat breakfast → hit balls on the range → putting green.
Rory says he believes his focus on longevity will help him play another 10+ years at a high level, and his physiological age on Whoop is now 1.5 years younger than his actual age.
Plus, it turned out to be a pretty good investment.
Rory initially invested in Whoop in 2020 when the company was valued at $1.2 billion. While we don't know exactly how much he invested, Whoop recently raised another round at a $10.1 billion valuation.
That's an 8.4x multiple in five years.
Not bad, not bad.
Back-to-back at Augusta! 🟢🏆
Rory McIlroy wins #TheMasters again - just the fourth to successfully defend the title 😲

The Original “Star Taffa” Is Dead
There are headlines you read twice -not because you didn’t understand them, but because your soul politely refuses to cooperate. Chuck Norris is dead.
In 1980s #Uganda, that statement would have been rejected at the village level, appealed at district, and overturned nationally. Because we had a standing policy about #ChuckNorris, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone: “Star taffa.” Stars don’t die. And Chuck wasn’t just a star -he was the footnote that explained the rule.
Don't blame us, those were the good old days of 'Obwavu Musolo' by Kyeswa, and I recall a that memorable line from some other act "Kitufu, Gwe Nabiwata?"
Back then, entertainment came without buffering -because there was nothing to buffer. No Netflix, no AI, life had no Wi-Fi, no “skip intro.” Just a battered Drum or The Spear Magazine, a few tired Reader’s Digests, Nick Carter Novels and imagination that did most of the heavy lifting. Mine, fortunately - or unfortunately -could draw.
In the dusty holiday afternoons of O-Level, somewhere behind The Centre near Watoto Church, the 'Kibanda' cinema unofficially hired me. Payment? Free entry and the equivalent of a packet of Rex cigarettes. Prestige? Immeasurable.
My job was to bring America to Kampala - one poster at a time.
One masterpiece still lingers: Chuck Norris, calm as Sunday morning, holding two Uzis (guns) like they were TV remotes. Not angry. Not hurried. Just… inevitable. I didn’t draw him. I documented him.
Chucks eyes were always calm like a man who had already solved the problem before the problem knew it existed. I drew him larger than life -because that is how we saw him. Not an actor. A solution.
In the bigger scheme of things, he was messaging American foreign policy statements during the era of the #ColdWar .
Missing in Action - he found them.
Delta Force -he was the delta and the force.
Invasion USA -honestly, that invasion didn’t stand a chance.
Can you imagine Chuck in the Strait of Hormuz today? Those shaheed drones would be easily taken out 'Chuck-Style'.
We believed things about him that even our teachers didn’t dare correct. That diseases checked his schedule before attempting infection. That diplomacy was simply waiting for Chuck to arrive. That in Way of the Dragon, Bruce Lee didn’t win -he survived.
So now they say he’s gone.
But let’s be honest - Chuck Norris doesn’t die. He simply becomes unavailable for sequels.
Somewhere beyond our view, one has to feel sorry for the Grim Reaper. Chuck has probably, now, got him in check!
For those of us who not only watched movies on the big screens of Neetah, Odion, Norman, Delight Cinemas, but also video halls, shacks aka Kibandas, who marketed Hollywood with crayons, markers, chalk, paint and courage, Chuck remains undefeated. He remains the original 'star taffa'.
Because if death came for Chuck…
…it probably had to make an appointment.

@Buzeki_Sharifah@joshjeje2 Thanks ED. For me what will eventually clear this traffic jam is moving government Ministries out of Kampala. Why is it that everyone wants to work, eat and live in Kampala? Relocate trade Ministry to Lira, Defense to Gulu, Agric to Entebbe, internal affairs to jinja and so on...

Jose Mourinho was the one who told Anatoliy Trubin to run up to add an aerial threat to the box.
Trubin did the unthinkable, heading home one of Benfica's most important goals in the last decade 🔥
