@1958unitedblood@mike_daddino Throwing the ball at her while she wasn't looking. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the dude was in the wrong, but these days you can't do shit that they can use against you.
@mike_daddino Old man just wanted to look cool, probably didn't realise she wasn't looking. I mean, he shouldn't have done that, but ejection is just too much.
@LinusTech is wrong on so many levels here I don't even know where to start. But my favorite is telling us that cost is a downside, then proceeding to show a 5-figure build running a quantized 27B params model.

@HighValueMail@4L3X5P34R@bulllaw Control over the situation? You have no idea how that works, do you? Check your facts before spreading bullshit online.
Hot take: sama is out of line, but he's right. There is not enough supply for everyone to run local inference while spending most of the time idle. As bad as datacenters might be, millions of personal tiny datacenters would be even worse. The memes are fun and all, but he's got a point.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead.
"From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."
Great takes from @atmoio
I was never fond of the tech recruiting process, but I feel like now might be a great time to evaluate engineers.
Make the assessment fully async, and have engineers work on pre-planned issues. Then evaluate their AI usage, grade their prompts, token consumption, and benchmark the product they built.
It's now cheap for both engineers to express their ideas as well as for companies to set up the assessments.
Could that work?

‼️ Researcher Erica Windisch skipped coordinated vulnerability disclosure and published 11 unpatched Tailscale flaws.
In her lab, Tailscale SSH race conditions let one hacked device get root on other servers and add a rogue node.
See what she did there? All artists should do the same when it comes to topics they don't master.
It would be ridiculous to have artists talking about software. It is equally ridiculous when they talk about politics, economy, morals, or anything else that they haven't studied enough.
