Since October 7, 2023, Jewish healthcare professionals, medical students, and patients have faced harassment, exclusion, and discrimination in medical settings.

Medicine promises care for every patient, without exception. Antisemitism in healthcare breaks that promise for the clinicians who face it and the patients who trust us.

Civil rights protections exist for both, but only matter if people know their rights. In a recent Heritage FL opinion piece, @omriattar, Chief Impact Officer, Chief Development Officer & VP of Israel and External Relations, explains what those rights are and where to turn.

A Jewish patient reportedly left UCLA’s ER after seeing a sticker echoing the blood libel: the lie that Jews deliberately kill children.

JFRG warned UCLA’s commission and medical school repeatedly.

Pharma ads don’t belong in patient care. Why does anti-Jewish hate?

Three years later.

Remembering isn’t only about looking back. It’s about what we’ve chosen to do with the grief.

Our organization was born from that day. Since then, Jewish physicians, residents, students, and healthcare professionals have found each other, built something lasting, and refused to let fear make us smaller. In hospitals, classrooms, and clinics, we show up as healers: with care, with courage, and with each other.

Today we hold the victims, the survivors, and the families still waiting for peace and closure. And we recommit to a profession where no one has to hide who they are in order to serve.

We remember. We carry on. We are still here.

Am Yisrael Chai.

A new bipartisan U.S. Civil Rights Commission report calls campus antisemitism a pressing civil rights concern.

Today's Jewish medical and pre-medical students are tomorrow's doctors, nurses, and researchers. Their safety and belonging are a healthcare workforce issue too.

What can the broader medical community learn from battlefield medicine? From lifesaving practices and rapid decision-making to new technologies and systems of care, lessons from the battlefield can apply far beyond it.

Dr. I.S., a reserve special forces medical evacuation platoon commander, will share lessons learned during Operation Iron Swords and what they can teach us about the future of medicine.

"American Jewish Medical Association CEO Eveline Shekhman, who also testified, said in a statement to JI, 'Antisemitism in behavioral health has become so pervasive that Jews are avoiding mental healthcare out of fear of discrimination and hostility.'”

""The Jewish healthcare community spoke with one voice. Jewish trainees in APA-accredited programs have reported being told by classmates that they deserved October 7th, being told by supervisors that their Jewish identity makes them privileged, and encountering curricula that delegitimize Israel with little room for dissent,” Shekhman continued."

"During a webinar hosted by the American Jewish Medical Association on Thursday titled “From Guidance to Action: Understanding the New HHS Protections Against Antisemitic Discrimination in Healthcare,” attorneys from Jewish advocacy and legal organizations described the guidance as an important affirmation of existing civil rights protections and a signal that HHS is prepared to address what they described as a growing problem of antisemitism in the medical field.

Rick Barton, an attorney and AJMA board member, said the guidance has particular significance because it comes from HHS, which oversees the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and has substantial regulatory and funding leverage over hospitals.

“Medicare and Medicaid represents about half of their budget, and so whenever the HHS calls and is there to enforce CMS regulations, hospitals stand up and they take notice,” Barton said."

Yesterday, chairs of the Task Force to Combat Antisemitism @InnaVernikov & @EricDinowitzNYC , jointly with Health Committee chair @Lynn4NYC met with leaders from the healthcare industry & Jewish advocacy groups to confront antisemitism in healthcare — a problem with a long, ugly history that has quadrupled since October 7. Jewish doctors and patients, like all doctors and patients, have a right to safe and fair treatment in a hospital facility. This was an important first step toward protecting Jewish patients, doctors, nurses and medical workers from discrimination and an unsafe environment. We are grateful to all the hospitals, agencies and advocacy groups who showed up and we look forward to working with them on behalf of Jewish New Yorkers on this important issue, @TheAJMAofficial @AJCGlobal @NJACLaw @brandeiscenter @NorthwellHealth @MountSinaiNYC @ADL @UJAfedNY @JewishBoard @AuschwitzJCF
