@Based_SpaceGoji@GuffyNicola I have watched this film more times than I care to count, and this scene makes me cry every time. It's the music that gets me, John Williams is a genius.
@EarnmyV@mwt2008 Ah, you're having trouble with the language, my apologies. Recalling something isn't plagiarism - maybe try using a dictionary next time you want to use a big word, or you might end up looking foolish. Any response to the substance of what I wrote? Or do you just like my job?
@Birdsbirdbird@freedomNov5@____Foxtrot____ That's the problem, which he has stated clearly elsewhere (and reflects Piketty among others), i.e. wealth grows faster over the long term than wages or GDP or inflation, so unless the govt does something about it then inequality only changes in one direction.
@Birdsbirdbird@freedomNov5@____Foxtrot____ Agreed on the first point, and I don't think the Zucman tax he currently advocates is the answer. But on the second point, I wish he'd reminded his opponent that while the Duke pays 0.6% tax per year, that trust fund grows by maybe 5% or more, concentrating wealth even further.
@EarnmyV@mwt2008 But that doesn't change the fact that an increase in the mean for a normally distributed variable makes it more likely that individual measurements are in the "less tolerable" range. That, I'm afraid, is maths, which is true no matter how feeble-minded the reader is. End
@EarnmyV@mwt2008 If you want specific frequency or intensity of future heatwaves or storms, or specific numbers for migration, or specific height of sea level rise and number of people affected, I don't know without looking it up. Estimates have been made, but they're just estimates. 4/
@EarnmyV@mwt2008 Very brave of you to throw around terms like "mental midget" when even a GCSE-level understanding of the normal distribution (see OP) would tell you why an increase in avg temp by just 1-1.5C is bad news for humans, and further expected increases would be very bad news indeed.
@EarnmyV@mwt2008 Very clever. Why are you using Fahrenheit? Why not Kelvin? That would make it even smaller. You know, if you graph the number of human deaths per year and make the y-axis big enough, you could make the famines caused by Chairman Mao disappear as well. Or just stop being silly.
@freedomNov5@____Foxtrot____ Putting aside the vile and unnecessary language, you think people on the dole are buying up all the houses? Your grasp of economics might be a bit weaker than I thought... Try studying this cartoon for a while. 'Bye now.
@EarnmyV@mwt2008 It's a mathematical invention. It's no more "normal" to show a y-axis that extends from -1.5C to +1C (like Mark's) than to show one extending from -20F to 120F. Your graph isn't really the "gotcha" you think it is, clever clogs.
@freedomNov5@____Foxtrot____ It's impossible to zero out fraud, that's absurd. And he doesn't pretend to be a good person, he's just arguing for a world in which people on ordinary wages can do basic things like buy a house. Extreme inequality destroys opportunity.
@freedomNov5@____Foxtrot____ He still trades plenty, he talks about it all the time. Whatever his motivation, I feel sorry for you if you find it impossible to imagine a rich person arguing to reduce inequality.
