I wrote an Op-Ed for @Decaturish on my disappointment in trying to find a local coffeeshop and how that’s a part of a bigger problem—the lack of third places in South DeKalb.
It started as a civic booster term and dates back to the 19th century, Accord to Timothy Crimmins, a Georgia State University urban history professor and director of the school's Center for Neighborhood and Metropolitan Studies.
As we moved into the 20th century, the Atlanta Way meant white elected officials lobbying Black civil rights leaders and ministers to support candidates or ballot questions — though that relationship was imbalanced.
At the height of the civil rights movement, this approach was used "to keep the city on a straight-and-narrow path when it comes to its brand" and reputation, said @IamKingWilliams a local journalist whose upcoming @theatlantaway documentary explores gentrification.
