@Jessicatrosman Ok let’s visit the cool Tel Aviv seafront, … but also the Ultra Orthodox neighborhoods of Jerusalem, the colonist villages of the West Bank. That should give a fair impression. It’s easy to only show westerners the part they’ll relate to.
@Frances01896069 The mental model is that of a parasite that eventually kills the host. The LLM feeds off human output while destroying it in the process.
@rbertoniere@MattWalshBlog Oh look, a guy that becomes a oh-so-contemptible socialist the second HIS shit is on the line. But when it’s other people, fuck you got mine bud.
@ThePatWhalen These days if a post starts with “as a white 45 yo woman bla bla” assume it’s a bot/psyop because you don’t walk up to people with your hand out “Hi, as a totally real fellow human, greetings! :)”
@olivvrszn Because if you’re competent, getting acquainted with LLMs ain’t hard, you can figure out markdown and few conventions, nothing to write home about. (Learning HOW it works is another story, actually interesting.)
@olivvrszn Without AI you won’t be able to meet the new 10x delivery expectations. That’s it. Individually, AI may atrophy and fry your brain, but that’s your problem, later (follows from frenetic feature chasing. Dominant trend. But not a fatality.)
@aestareth@manohhorse@Waffl3x TLDR: we do pay a ton of taxes, for less returns. You must also save for retirement. Rents have double since before the pandemic, generally cost of living has skyrocketed. 15 years ago moving to Canada was a no brainer, today, I'm not sure.
@aestareth@manohhorse@Waffl3x as a french person living in canada for 15 years, you'd be surprised at our taxes. Employers are taxed less than in France, but your own taxes may not be lower than France, in some cases, for a normal guy, it can be higher. And we have less social protection (but more than US)
@SaraHirschhorn1 Very few people were insensitive to the absolute horror and depravity of oct7. I vividly remember the parading of naked young women corpses, and it still churns my stomach. Yet, a lot happened besides/since that, and everyone is to answer for what they did/do.
@dhh As you head barefoot into the 16th failed assault, a guy with a gold decorated uniform says from a balcony that some grand cause you won't be there to see is totally worth it.
@drunknbass@dhh Anytime I hear the saying I have to ask where the omelette is. Because oftentimes there ain’t any, or your egg was cracked to make someone else’s.
@MacaesBruno Oh great, having doubts about killing babies is “moral weakness” now. That’s the kind of shit you read in Nuremberg confessions. (Example: Rudolph Hoess, who recognizes the horror, but tries to justify it nonetheless.)
@LancePinkham “The worse thing ever is the one I really ain’t concerned by. I may be cheating, lying, greedy, …. But hey I ain’t gay so it’s fine.” How convenient eh.
@relionwastaken Lower population density and isolation. Europeans collected these diseases through millennia of exchanges with the east, wars that crowded ill fed people in abysmal sanitary conditions, etc…
@dmitriid Clean Code is meant for relatively simple tasks that don’t care about performance. When you try writing a rendering engine, a scientific solver, etc… you see it as the superficial dogmatism it is.
@banderoudmurt The whole school of thought is dogmatic and superficial. It makes mid/bad programmers feel safe/competent. Its prophets haven’t built the most complex systems, usually it’s basic shit that can easily be bent to their dogma.
