Political education doesn’t work when those whose views have been formed based on misinformation can weaponize the same concept to deny facts. Trying to change the mind of Trump voters in my family using facts was always met with “that’s liberal misinformation.”
Super proud! It's been great to see Mez grow intellectually throughout her PhD journey. The Spencer Award is the type of award I ASPIRED to get when I was a student. Mez did it! Proud advisor and fellow #RGV gal.

I got tenure! Latinas make up ~1% of tenured faculty at R1 institutions. I'm the 1% bc my parents worked in cucumber fields over the summer to make sure I had access to the American Dream - new school clothes, a HS diploma, and a job out of the sun. I dared to dream bigger. 1/2
I dreamed of a future where #firstgen students become professors, where barrio girls grow into chingonas who take up space in institutions not ready for them. Thx to mi familia, mentors who guided me, grad school friends who hyped me up & students who give me hope for the future.
Six UMSI faculty promotions were just approved by the @UMich Regents 👏 https://t.co/4tTjmuyn74
Please join us in congratulating Barbara Ericson, Patricia Garcia, Eric Gilbert, Erin Krupka, Sarita Schoenebeck and Sile O’Modhrain!
What are algorithms, and how do they affect our everyday lives?
UMSI’s Patricia Garcia demystifies algorithms on @michigan_public’s “Stateside” program, explaining why they should be used as tools — not automatic decision makers. https://t.co/QZsen7uU5w
