A story of Olives and Cactus:
“Wherever you see cactus, know there was a Palestinian village in that place ” . That’s what they tell you if you ever visit the West Bank. Israel has been removing, bulldozing , erasing villages and cities for decades to terraform the land . But the problem is , Cactus keeps growing back . No matter how they try to destroy the land and the soil and build their settlements , cactus keep coming back.
A friend of mine just came back from there carrying a gift for me : Locally squeezed olive oil from a her village in the West Bank . “Forget the commercial stuff you buy from stores. We squeeze oil in our own villages.”
They squeeze the olives on the stone mills, use clean dedicated straw bags to squeeze it on the extruding machines . Same process that has been done for 100,200, 400 maybe 600 years . As old as these trees. You take a product of the land , squeeze it to its limits and you get that pure green gold.
A healing potion of life .
“Just put some oil” is the answer for everything in Palestine. Hungry ? Add oil. A bit sick ? Rub oil. Want to feel better about the world? Oil as old as the earth is there for you. They are not just olive trees. They are family . They are there to feed you , heal you and take care of you. How can you uproot a member of the family and call this land yours ? I have no idea . The trees don’t agree with that . And cactus definitely don’t agree with that. Maybe we got it all wrong! Maybe olive trees are not just an extension of Palestinian heritage. Maybe, Palestinians themselves are an extension of the land . They are like the trees . You can beat them , you can pressure them , you can squeeze them and push them beyond any human limits. But they don’t die . Like crushed olives that produce green gold. And from death, a million lives will be born. And their pain will eventually be the healing potion for all of us.
And if you try to uproot them , they won’t go away . You think they will. But they come back. Like cactus . To defy you , to stand up for you , take your abuse and prick you back. They are there , to stay . Forever

Explosive PAC Directive: $3 Billion Loans Scandal Rocks Pakistan!

In a shocking revelation, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has unleashed a storm by ordering a full-blown forensic audit into the dubious distribution of a staggering $3 billion in loans. These astronomical funds were allocated to a whopping 620 borrowers during the reign of the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Under the iron-fist leadership of Chairman Noor Alam Khan, the PAC held a highly charged meeting to discuss the mind-boggling loans. During this extraordinary session, the finance secretary reluctantly disclosed that these loans were handed out under the deceptive guise of a so-called "refinance scheme."

Chairman Noor, with his fiery gaze fixed on the trembling finance secretary, demanded to know what benefits the nation had reaped from these loans, cunningly offered at an inexplicably low 5% interest rate. Sensing the mounting public outrage, Noor astutely questioned how this alleged "good" scheme had only succeeded in making our national begging bowl grow larger!

Attempting to deflect responsibility, the finance secretary meekly suggested that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) was the mastermind behind this reckless endeavor, executed through the connivance of commercial banks. Clearly rattled, the SBP governor took the stand and brazenly claimed that this scheme was launched in response to the dire circumstances posed by the devastating coronavirus pandemic. However, suspicions arose when he hastily mentioned that no foreign currency had been involved and that the 5% interest rate had conveniently been revised.

In a jaw-dropping twist, Chairman Noor demanded answers about the mysterious beneficiaries of this ill-fated scheme. Venting his fury, he demanded to know which law granted the SBP the audacity to keep these names concealed from the public eye. Unleashing his wrath upon the SBP governor, Noor pointed out that he had previously written to the bank, expressing grave concerns about the 620 individuals who had inexplicably received these astronomical loans amounting to a mind-numbing $3 billion.

Not one to be silenced, Committee member Barjees Tahir passionately voiced the public's sentiments, insisting that the identities of these privileged 620 individuals must be exposed to the world. However, cunningly attempting to sweep this scandal under the rug, the SBP governor proposed an in-camera briefing as an alternative to publishing the names, leaving the committee members in a state of disbelief.

As the nation awaits the outcome of this explosive investigation, questions loom over the darkest corners of this sordid loans affair. Will justice prevail, or will the truth be buried in the shadowy corridors of power? Only time will tell as Pakistan braces itself for the unraveling of the $3 billion loans scandal that has sent shockwaves through the nation!
