At my 25 #99countymeetings I heard frm farmers abt high input costs impacting their bottom line To relieve some pressure I’m calling on Pres Trump to use his emergency powers to suspend the countervailing duties on phosphate imports
"Years of high fertilizer prices."
That's the outlook from USDA Deputy Sec. Stephen Vaden — pointing to limited competition and tight supply.
The fix? More transparency, more production.
Hat tip to @Tyne_Ag for the convo!

Fertilizer. Seed. Chemicals. Equipment.
We've been sounding the alarm on input costs for months. Now, USDA is asking farmers directly what they're seeing on the ground — confidentially.
If costs are squeezing your operation, this is your moment to be heard: https://t.co/jXwOLvsw3y

Thx Pres Trump for attn to price gouging/fertilizer prices
Another thing to relieve $$ pressure on inputs would be remove countervailing duties on imported phosphate
While the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) can be noisy and isn't the end all be all, the recent trend is undeniable. We've seen a crash in the SOI during spring ENSO transitions before, and they almost always bring about a significant pattern change to the High Plains. A BIG Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) pulse is also forecast to favor Phase 7, 8, and 1 late this month into May. That is also a good sign...#desertfarmers #cowx #kswx #newx #okwx #txwx #nmwx #wywx #ElNiño
Fertilizer costs hit farmers’ bottom line and your grocery bill. Thank you, @realDonaldTrump, for watching out for American farmers.

I reached out to @EPA yesterday about eliminating DEF to help with fertilizer availability/prices in the short-term. This is what they said: “EPA is actively pursuing rulemaking opportunities to further address widespread concerns from farmers, truckers, motor coach operators, and other diesel equipment operators regarding Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system failures. On February 3, 2026, EPA demanded information from major diesel engine manufacturers on critical data from DEF system failures. The data collected will allow EPA to independently evaluate ongoing system failures and help inform next steps the agency takes in 2026 pertaining to DEF.”
