In the areas impacted by the Morrill Fire, cattle is king. The most recent Census of Agriculture from 2022 found more than 900,000 acres dedicated to pastureland for nearly 85,000 cattle and calves in Garden County alone, where the fire burned the most land. Morrill County is one of the top cattle-producing counties in the nation. In 2022, it was home to more than 160,000 head.

.@TeamPillen hosts @SecRollins for an update on Nebraska’s wildfires, now the 9th largest in US history, impacting a wide swath of rangeland critical for grazing.
Ranchers ask for flexibility, saying they’ll need to get creative with mama cows.
So more aerial views of Nebraska wildfires as seen by NSP Trooper Pilots on survey flights Friday.
There is a massive effort underway by countless entities and volunteers to respond. Please continue to follow local emergency orders as they are issued.
Honored to attend the Western Nebraska Wildfire briefing in Ogallala today with Governor @TeamPillen, Secretary of Agriculture @BrookeLRollins, Undersecretary Fordyce, @SenatorFischer, @SenatorRicketts, @RepAdrianSmith, @mikehilgers, and members of the cabinet.
I am truly inspired by the dedication and commitment shown by the firefighters, volunteers, community members, ranchers, farmers, @NEStatePatrol Troopers, and first responders.
A heartfelt thank you to the first responders who continue to put themselves in harm’s way to protect our communities.
The impact of these wildfires is significant, but the resolve and resilience of Nebraska’s farmers, ranchers, and ag producers is even greater.
Special thanks @NEarmyguard!
This is Nebraska. This is Go Big Red! 🇺🇸
Here at the Ogallala Airport with @SecRollins for an aerial tour of the fire damage in Western Nebraska.
My heart and prayers continue to go out to those impacted. I will do all I can to support relief efforts.

This is rural America—the very fiber that holds our nation together. ❤️🇺🇸
I was in Nebraska today, meeting the farmers and ranchers devastated after the Morrill Fire tore through 643,000 acres in western Nebraska, the largest wildfire in state history. These families lost everything: their hay, their grazing land, their entire way of life. With nowhere left to turn, they faced an overwhelming road ahead.
But they didn’t face it alone.
Neighbors from Craig and Oakland saw the need and answered. One simple Facebook post sparked a convoy of 22 semis rolling across the state, delivering more than 700 bales of donated hay straight into the hands of those who had nothing left.
That’s how it works out here: when you lose everything, your neighbor shows up and helps carry the load. No questions, no hesitation, just quiet strength and open hands.
We help our neighbor.
We do what’s right.
And we know they’ll have our backs when the burden is ours.
This is the unbreakable heart of America.

“Americans come together, and we lock arms, we bow our heads in prayer, and then we get to work. USDA and the entire Trump administration is with you. We are 100% committed to supporting our firefighters, our producers, and all the Nebraska rural communities during this response and throughout the recovery that follows.”-@SecRollins 🇺🇸
In Nebraska today, we are above the Morrill Fire this morning with the Nebraska National Guard. Over 640,000 acres have burned from the Morrill Fire — 800,000 acres across the entire state.
The scale of this devastation is something you have to see to understand.
On the ground with our firefighters, responders, and Nebraska producers. These men and women are working nonstop. True heroes in every sense.
We stand with you.
We are fully engaged, Team Nebraska. 🙏🏻🚁

Today in Ogallala, Nebraska, I met with ranchers whose herds, operations, and multi-generational family legacies have been devastated by the largest wildfire in state history.
We flew an aerial tour over the ranchlands, received a full briefing from our wonderful leads on the ground, briefed press, and sat down for a heartfelt roundtable with these incredible families. Hearing their powerful stories firsthand — the heartbreak of generations of hard work lost in an instant, yet their fierce determination to rebuild stronger — was truly moving and inspiring.
The scale of this fire (the largest in state history and the 9th largest in American history) is overwhelming. But so is the grit and resilience of these ranching families who are the backbone of rural Nebraska and rural America.
@USDA and the entire Trump Administration are fully engaged and committed to standing with our ranchers through every step of response and long-term recovery.
In times like these, we come together. We pray. And then we get to work. Thank you to @SenatorFischer, @SenatorRicketts, @RepAdrianSmith, and @TeamPillen for hosting me in your amazing state. God bless all the firefighters who were with us today, and the thousands more who bravely battled the fires.
We are all Team Nebraska. 🇺🇸🙏🏻

In December 2025, former US Senator @BenSasse announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. That's the primary topic for this @UncKnowledge conversation about mortality, faith, and what truly matters when time is short.
Talking to host @P_M_Robinson, Sasse reflects on "redeeming the time"—holding ambition lightly, loving family more deliberately, and resisting the urge to make politics or professional success the center of life.
The discussion also covers Sasse's thoughts on the failures of Congress; the dangers of a fragmented, attention-starved republic; the crisis of higher education; and the moral challenges of technological abundance.
He speaks candidly and movingly about regret, forgiveness, prayer, and suffering—arguing that while death is a real enemy, it does not get the final word. Watch the full conversation on X:
