Not that I'm suggesting this happen, but it's interesting to think that the people who were failed under their governance had options to deal with corrupt & unjust leadership. Today we have nothing to hold them accountable in real time, just the vote every 4 years. (3/3)

@MaryLouMcDonald made the point this week that the country is now reaping the harvest of over 10 years of underfunding & cuts to the Irish a health services. This is particularly apt to point out as we head into winter & as the harvest season is upon us. (1/3)

In Irish history, there were consequences for Irish rulers if they did not give Right judgement and failed their people, incl. a poor harvest, plague etc. There were other consequences too, such as ritual killings & being thrown in a bog, believed to keep them in purgatory (2/3)

If the Gov are using with private hospitals to up capacity would it not be prudent to use those for the backlogs of non-COVID services? Surely that would have been possible earlier in this Pandemic when millions were paid to them & they weren't used? @LeoVaradkar @DonnellyStephen
