'That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.' Christopher Hitchens, author and humanist, died on this day 2011. His cutting dialogues, insights, eloquence, wit, and candour are sorely missed.
Just heard the Home Secretary stand up in Parliament and declare that "the British people support the Rwanda plan".
I'm sick of these guys telling me what I support.
I do not support the "Rwanda plan".
If you don't either, please retweet.
Two Swedes shot dead by an Islamist in Brussels, a Muslim killed by a far-right thug in Chicago. This is the cycle of hatred and grievance that degrades us all & that terrorists seek. It’s the responsibility of the rest of us to hold together & not engage in selective compassion.
As we are on the verge of the abyss in the Middle East, I have two humanitarian appeals:
To Hamas, the hostages must be immediately released without conditions.
To Israel, rapid & unimpeded access for humanitarian aid must be granted for the sake of the civilians in Gaza.
The shutdown of Gaza’s only power plant will exacerbate an already desperate humanitarian crisis for more than 2.2 million people trapped in the Gaza Strip.
Israel must lift the illegal and inhumane blockade on Gaza as power plant runs out of fuel.

Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian woman who has just won the Nobel Peace Prize, has been sentenced to a total of 31 years’ imprisonment plus 154 lashes and is currently in jail. The award won’t change the unreconstructed approach of Iran’s government, but it’s another big step on the way to major change.
'I am not a ward of America. I am not an object of missionary charity. I am one of the people who built the country.' In 1965, American humanist and novelist James Baldwin spoke at the University of Cambridge. His words on racism resonate loudly 58 years later. #BlackHistoryMonth
Tomorrow, six young people from Portugal will present a landmark case, arguing that countries are breaching their human rights by failing to do enough to protect them from climate change. https://t.co/GuvSiG5j9c
I don’t agree with those who think Suella Braverman must be stupid because she says that being gay is no reason to seek asylum. I think it is much more to do with her being evil.
What is missing in these peoples minds ? What tragedies ruined their development ? What do they do when they get home and think about their evening ? It’s sometimes hard to see them as the same species as those with kindness and empathy . Hate - cruelty - violence . So sad .
